You probably don't need to have lime, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to sprinkle some around.
Can't find the thread right now, but one of my friends on another thread suggests getting wood chips and allowing them to set for as long as it takes for them to start to break down, the time you start finding worms and other stuff in them, then put them in the runs. It makes for a good footing, is softer than fresh chips, and is unlikely to have irritating sap. I have a huge pile of chips down at my office from when they came and trimmed for the power lines, and I haul them home in feed sacks, it makes a great run fill for muddy times of the year.
