Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Finally stayed dry enough here that our hay supplier was about to get 5 and a half wagons of hay to us on Saturday. He's got other contracts out that he's trying to get some hay to yet, but that's a pretty good start and we're more than willing to burn off what's left of the last years hay before needing to worry much more now about getting more hay up in the hay mound.

This apartment living must be making me soft. Today, it was just so dang muggy out that about all I didn't wan to do anything else after a few odd chores around the farm like watering the tree and moving the coop around to a new spot. I was thinking about getting the weed eater out earlier today and knock down some weeds that need it, but blagh. Just all sweaty and sticky. And then later on I found a tick crawling on my head. Tossed him in with the chicken treat container and stuck that in the microwave for 30 seconds. Should be enough to ruin his day right??

More ticks all the time up here! More varieties too. Yuck!
I'm not a fan of the heat and humidity, and air conditioning keeps me inside way too much.
Thunderstorms! More thunderstorms! Can't complain, not worse, but still...
Yesterday two cute older kittens arrived, from a feral cat rescue, as new barn cats here. After two years of nobody wandering in, had to find another way to get one, or two. They are in a very large cage in the barn, acclimating, hopefully to live here a long time. Neither had seen big chickens before, and the crowing rooster surprised them a lot!

I keep checking the dogs and the cat for ticks. I haven't found any yet but I'm sure I have them in the tall grass prairie that I'm restoring. The mosquitoes are thick here. Fortunately I rarely get bit. The damn deer flies and black flies are the ones that like to feast on my poor, bald head. I have to spray myself down if I'm working outside.

There are a couple of feral cats at work. I think I'll try to trap them and bring them home to help reduce the chipmunk population here. I can get them spayed or neutered for $12 through the county programme. Or I could go to Huron Valley shelter and get a couple for free. But going to Ann Arbor breaks the I-69 rule.

I did break that rule on Friday when I drove down to Fowlerville for some tattoo work. I got a beautiful piece done.

Thunderstorms seem to have passed far south of here. I rode the motorcycle to work and only got a few sprinkles. It wasn't even a Florida ride. The day was pretty gorgeous.

A rare day off for me. Spent a lot of time on the tractor, pretending to be a farmer. Lots of post holes drilled and posts set for fencing off the garden. Going back out to do more drilling for the chicken run. Got to make sure the hens and littles are secure in this predator-infested area.
