Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

But that's perfect for hunting. You can take a nice, long nap. My son killed his second (a doe) this Saturday and his first without the old man next to him. Now if he'd just have it dressed out before I got there...

Oxford update: at the last Planning Commission meeting, they formed a committee to evaluate and make recommendations on the livestock ordnance. Essentiallly, one member did some research beforehand and determined that Oxford's ordnance would never stand up in court. So she, one other pro-chicken member, and I are on committee. I've since then recruited 3 other people to join us. And two days ago, I found out my next door neighbor wants to get chickens as well! This is going great. We haven't had our first meeting yet, but the holidays are kind of in the way. I could use some more Oxford support if anyone else is out there!

If I could only take my bow with me when I go to MBG today.

Last week there was a very nice 8-point about 10 yards off the trail. I stood there with half a dozen noisy 2nd graders and that buck watched us while we watched him. He was perfectly quartered for a shot but knows that he is in a safe zone.

Does anyone know what store I need to go to in order to find a 2-3gal bucket with a lid? I need to get a nipple waterer made for the chicks since they are dumping a good part of their water every day right now, but a 5gal bucket will be too big. I'm striking out so far.

We got 6 eggs yesterday out of the 9 big girls! I'm not sure if that's because no one checked for eggs on Sunday or if they're all deciding to be productive now! They're certainly old enough! My marans pullets are starting to pink up as well, so hopefully in another month one of them will start laying too.

I'm brining up a storm today! The turkey is soaking and once I run to the store to get a few more pie pans and get the pies cooking, I'm going to start cleaning up the doe (it's quartered and on ice) and start corning a few roasts from the front shoulders. Then we'll have to decide what to do with the rest of her! Canning/pressure cooker or burger. Hmmmmmm.

I am glad it will cool off Friday... I don't like hunting in the warm weather either cause the deer don't move as much (well, I wouldn't mind if the space around me would be warm). This view never gets old to me!

Friday could be good because of the temp drop overnight. Though I won't complain, thanksgiving in the 60's will make for a nice day!

Raz, I don't want you to go to jail............. who's gonna feed the fish! LOL!

I inquired about adopting a little Dachshund puppy but he doesn't have the temperament I need. I am looking for one to track wounded deer. If anyone knows of anyone selling pups or any up for adoption, please let me know.

Ike and DH ..... darn goats are so cute (DH too)!

I saw an add on craigs list for 2 different farms selling angora goats... some have beautiful colors! Let me know if you're interested I'll forward their emails to you.

Try Lowes (or similar) or a hardware store.

You can, can burger too, just cook and drain off the fat before canning. That's what we do with our deer.

I get plastic pails from a local donut shop for $1 including the lid.

I rarely drink soda however my southern heritage dictates that I consume gallons of sweet tea. While I do enjoy the taste of tea I can't bring myself to believe the many claims made by health fanatics who espouse the benefits of tea drinking

. When I saw this tea advertised I couldn't help but wonder what would be the benefit and what fool would drink it.

Hehe, yep! She is close to a cashmere goat, an Angora.

And of course, I must shamelessly share pictures of my living plush doll of a goat, hah!

Nibbling on some hay

Good side profile of her. And a chicken nearly photobombe the picture!

Doing what goats do best, climbing!

Bowl of nummies drawing her attention. She is still wary of me.

I upped the ante, I offered her grain from my hand

Food won!

Welcome,
