Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I finally have all our adult chickens together in one flock! Three seramas Macchiatto, Mocha and Latte, three silkies Priscilla, Raven and Hunny-Bunny, and mottled cochins Dragon, Ivy and Bluebell. They really do band together in their groups which I think is cute. The seramas really give me a laugh. Macchiatto has such a loud high pitched voice compared to everyone else. At least Dragon has a nice crow...

Only nine chickens? Goodness I need to hatch more eggs next spring!

Love them big cochin booties! Can't wait for them to grow in their mottling.

Just how do I get up there with these lame frizzled wings?

What??? You don't have scratch for us???

My start of the Christmas decorating. Do any of you decorate your coops? I haven't in the past but think it will be fun. I just put the boards around the base this past weekend (well my husband did) and will get some straw to put under to make a cozy spot.

Cute birds n coop!

(my coop is raised like yours, I closed the bottom of my coop off because it gets full of poop and hard to clean, plus my birds wouldn't go in the coop at night so I could keep them safe)..

So my sumatra roo has been going to town on my poor Uggo hen........I think I will let the little silkie who wants to go broody now, sit on some of these magical mystery eggs in the spring. Silkie/Sumatra/Uuggo... oh my!

Hi Juise: I am kinda intrigued with this so-called "poop board". How did you build yours and do you have any pictures to share?

I haven't taken any pictures because the light in there sucks and flash does not treat a chicken coop well, ROFL, but I will see if I can get some. I should have taken a picture when it was just finished and the winter covers weren't up over all the windows, and no one had pooped on it yet, lol, but as long as you don't mind that I am not going to give it a scrub down for the photo op, it should be okay. ^-^

Scifisarah - Your puff balls are so cute, and so is your coop!

Raz, I don't want you to go to jail............. who's gonna feed the fish! LOL!
At first glance, I thought that I was looking in a mirror. Your DH kind of looks a bit like me. Close enough to be distant brothers anyway.

Feeding the fish will be fine. My next court date is in January and poor Juise will have to get over the fact that people like me are allowed to run loose.

. When I saw this tea advertised I couldn't help but wonder what would be the benefit and what fool would drink it.
I know that a "blivit" is 10 pounds of poop in a 5 pound bag. So what is 25 pounds of worm poo in a yellow bag? Just goes to show that people will buy any kind of crap just as long as it is packaged nicely.

Seriously though, worm tea and compost tea are good for your plants.

No problem Juise...just gathering ideas for DH winter projects

The seramas are looking good as well as the rest of your birds! Nice coop as well!

Oh, oh, oh! And I wanted to report back, I don't remember if I told you guys that I built an elevated poop board and new roost? I put a lip around the edge and filled it with sand. Now I am cleaning the chicken coop with a kitty litter scoop and a bucket instead of a shovel and wheelbarrow. I love it so much and it is awesome! Saves my back, too. I'm especially looking forward to that easier cleaning over the winter.
OOOOOoooo! I like! Now you got me wanting to............i moved my roost up since my newer chickens insisting on roosting on whatever else they could find up high, not content with the original perch.......... but this leaves me with no poop board! Uugh. I like the scooping idea, too :)
As for me, I finally returned to my rational self after the loss of myfriendly/imprinted EE hen,
Aww, yours too? I am still moping, but i did hatch mine's last egg.......She has the same body type as her mom (short and round, lol) and she inherited her mom's odd tendencies, including the wanting to be held ALL THE TIME! When i pet her she bumps her whole body into my hand, and she also inherited the tendencies to just lay down on me, oftentimes lolling on her side in my lap, lol.
I try to push her into hanging with the others, but how can you say no to this little face???!

My dear sweet Amelia had many of the same eccentricities as your hen.....this picture does no justice for her lovely blue beard. I wish so much that I had a roo and could've hatched out some EE. I miss her SOOOOO much and all her chicken cuddles.

Native beauty, Opa has some poop board pics on BYC somewhere, I bet if you ask he will post them.

Sarah, your coop is darling. You might find, though, if you leave it open underneath and especially if you add bedding they may start laying under there - hard to get eggs out - and it will be very hard to clean.
