Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Ike and DH ..... darn goats are so cute (DH too)!

I saw an add on craigs list for 2 different farms selling angora goats... some have beautiful colors! Let me know if you're interested I'll forward their emails to you.

Awww! Adorable goatie, looks like Ike is loving the attention your DH is lavishing on him!

I saw those ads too. One farm is selling their entire angora stock, and they look like very nice goats, too! If I could house more, I'd totally be taking a road trip. But my pasture space and winter hay supply limit me. Plus, I am comfortable with the number I have right now.

I make worm tea. Great stuff. Wouldn't be caught dead drinking it but the garden can't get enough.

Right!!! It is worm castings, when you steep it, it gets all the nutrients into the water and then you pour that on the plants.

Highlights of what you missed...

Daron's 24. Tap shot a nice buck from her basement window, she was not wearing a dress, but she did have on dress pants and a nice sweater, so we'll let that one slide. This time. RaZ is still a free man and working hard to stay that way and to keep us all in chickens. We've got a lot of new members recently. That's always nice. Stacy got the prettiest cashmere goat. I think it was Stacykins. Babigyrl is preggo with twins. RaZ is a docent... yet kids make him puke. There was is the winter heat/no heat/ what about frozen water discussion that seems to happen every year. (I asked those same question my first winter also). The presidents still president. The sky is still up and the ground is still down. Good books for chicken keeping/homesteading were discussed a bit. Crazy people are incubating or are letting broody birds incubate (guilty!). Oh, and Brethrens hubby had an accident at work that crushed his leg, several surgeries to fix it. Plate and screws, but is on the mend. SO, in other words, same ole same ole. Different day, same poop. Kicking and screaming.
Wow....I couldn't have even recanted all of that. Strong work NovaAman

Don't you just love the holidays?? Had to send DH to babysit for grand daughter that's home from school cuz I have too much cooking to do. The Frickadellen are done. Just got done with the German Fried Cakes. Their German name is Torn Pants, but sure not gonna try and spell that!! Kids hardly want Turkey any more. And, especially since my mom passed, they want the things she use to make for us when we visited. Just gives you a warm feeling to pass on the traditions.
Pick up the fresh turkey tomorrow... yes, I'm still making a turkey. Like I said... tradition. A bit of German tradition and a bit of American.
Enjoy your day, every one.

Oh, oh, oh! And I wanted to report back, I don't remember if I told you guys that I built an elevated poop board and new roost? I put a lip around the edge and filled it with sand. Now I am cleaning the chicken coop with a kitty litter scoop and a bucket instead of a shovel and wheelbarrow. I love it so much and it is awesome! Saves my back, too. I'm especially looking forward to that easier cleaning over the winter.
Hi Juise: I am kinda intrigued with this so-called "poop board". How did you build yours and do you have any pictures to share? This is our second winter with chickens and I have found so many projects for my chickens here....poop boards, how to prevent frozen waterers, rolling nest boxes.
What a thoughtful and ingenoius group of poultry owners you all are!! Just when I thought this winter would be boring, I found all this new information, now I'm not sure how I'll ever keep up

As for this CS, can someone fill me in? I'd love to meet some fellow BYC MI chicken enthusiasts, see more chickens and hat everyone does as far as crafts and hobbies, etc. PS I love to cook and welcome a chance to break bread with others

As for me, I finally returned to my rational self after the loss of myfriendly/imprinted EE hen, Amelia and DH allowed me to get a "replacement". Devious me, I figured since Amelia was a SF that equated to two BF and got a couple of MFD hens from TripleJ

. I am so glad DH didn't even blink at my recent purchases, he was just glad my moping was over.

I am sure everyone is very busy with the up-coming holidays, but I wondered if anyone is interested in a bachelor group of Muscovies? Their juvenile hi-jinks are quite entertaining, but I am ready to free up some coop space in anticipation for spring hatch and would love to re-home these boys......delivery options can be arranged as well.

Chicken Stock is a Chicken Lovers get together. Food, animals, crafts. We share laughter and friendships. It's a Delta Mills Park, outside of Lansing. We all have a great time. More will be shared once I schedule the date. We'll have a separate thread for food sign ups, etc. Hope you can make it.
