Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Today we lost Brad, our first EE bantam rooster. He was a good boy!
I've been keeping the flock inside since that EE bantam pullet was killed last week. Brad rushed past me when I was doing their water this afternoon, and I didn't let anyone else out. 'A bit later, he was dead, with a small/ medium sized gray hawk getting ready to start eating. At least I know who's the culprit now!
Brad was the only 'escape artist' out there, so the rest should be a lot easier to contain, for at least three weeks, hoping that this hawk leaves. :hit

I do have one of his sons, at least.

Sorry for your sake, its hard to lose a good bird, but thankfully it sounds like you at have a replacement.

I literally brushed my teeth and threw on some clothes and high tailed it to the township office. CS20 will be held on June 20th. Delta Mills Park.
Sounds great! We want to try to be there this time.

Where the heck is everyone??? Where did everyone go??
I don't have anything fun to share with you all. Was hoping someone had something witty to say or a fun story to tell.
Hope everyone is well and just too busy to stop by. Have a good day all.
Still here, just not getting on here much.

6 eggs in the last 5 days!!
One or both pullets are laying...and a hen.
Pretty exciting after a month with NO eggs.

Caught 3 mice in the kitchen, under the stove top.
Little BatRastards!
Never had so many in the house before...
...maybe because dog is gone (dog yard adjacent to kitchen)?
It's kinda funny that they try to drag corn chips thru the burner pan holes,
won't fit, then kettle heating starts 'em smokin'.

The sun is out!
:wee
Sounds like you might need two of my barn cats.

We got at least 4" of snow yesterday morning. Got what needed shoveled. Then it rained and some of the snow melted. Then it started to snow again. Still snowing, but not much accumulation. I imagine there's ice under that snow. Much fun...
We have a hawk hanging around, so the birds have been in the run. Had them out for a bit on Fri while I was out doing my chores. Thought they might enjoy a little freedom before the storm hit. Well, a hawk flew through the yard so that ended that real quick. Had to chase the rabbits in too. Felt bad for them.
Be smart about shoveling the snow and be safe.

No cats! Traps work just fine. ;)

Another ~3" of fluff overnight, supposed to be another ~3" before it stops mid afternoon.
Haven't had the heart to check the frozen driveway slush, but the deck is a mess.

I love my barn cat. He was an adoptee from Huron Valley Humane Society. He is great at catching chipmunks. Chippies are a big problem here. Hobbes will go out in the snow and rain to hunt. He is out now and will come in near dusk. He is also a good indoor cat.

Just a little dusting of snow here today. The wind is coming off the lake and blowing over the roads. They can be quite icy for driving on. I took the back way through the woods to go to town. The only tracks were from snowmobiles. Now there are Jeep footprints. :D

The snow is over the sun is out, after a coffee I'll go out and see how the thrower will handle the new 4-5" of fluffy and whatever is under it.

I so feel your pain @aart - returned home after my tour in Navy to the Battle Creek area in summer of '92.... Those messy wierd, slushy winter's were definitely an adjustment. Glad I had recently acquired a Subaru 4WD wagon! Butidigress....
So you haven't suffered a Michigan winter since 1992?

No. That's when I returned to Michigan. I did transfer to UNT in fall/95 but, every year I had a road trip back to Michigan for Xmas break until 2003/04 when I graduated and took a break from college. Returned to Michigan to sorta live with parents.... Got a CDL and did an omage to Grampa and drove OTR (dryvans) for a few years ...... Still dealt with winters, just in a 18 wheeler 04-06/07......
