Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hello everyone just finding out that Michigan has a thread.
We have had an active thread for well over 10 years. At one time there would be 30 - 40 or more posts a day. The original thread was shut down after some folks forgot their manners and the moderators had to step in. We are more civil and polite now. ;)

Home from first round of PT. Therapist said that she has never had a patient as stiff as me. I have the flexibility of a fence post. I go back on Tuesday and hopefully the ins co will approve the treatment plan. :fl

Welcome newbies!
I've bought from TSC (best to know what you are looking at!) and ordered from Murray McMurray and Cackle several times, with good success. Once from Meyers too.
It will depend on what breeds you are lusting after, so figure that out first, and then drool over the catalogs.
Henderson's breed chart, feathersite, the Livestock Breeds Conservancy, and catalogs are good to look at.

Hope your honey is home and back in shape.

Hey, finally found my state’s thread!
I'd like to start another flock, but something that will tolerate the Michigan winters.
Welcome to the MI Chat!

I think most breeds without large combs do fine down there
Yup, and can be more about housing than breed.

I don’t think we have ever had issues with buying chicks. Our first round we bought from someone who bought too many and he was selling off a few, we got 6 ISA browns to start us out. Best layers yet for us. The second group we got was from now called “The Funky Chicken hatchery” out of Vestaberg MI. For some reason I don’t think they had the same name when we got ours but the person I spoke with was great and made sure everything was clear before she shipped the chicks. They were here the next day. Our last group was from TSC. Never had a sick chick or any other issues with any of them. I think we have been pretty lucky so far.

Most of those people seem to be gone now.
Thread used to move so fast I couldn't keep up!
There was a time that if you were gone for a weekend you might come back to 20 or 30 pages of posts.
Some of the old timers have moved on to FB. A few have moved out of state. And a few had health issues that forced them out of chicken keeping. Sad to see so many people gone. But we still have good people here. Lots of good advice and suggestions.

Put Chicken Stock 2020 on your calendar and come meet them in person.
