Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

:frowHi all and hope everyone stayed safe through the storms this week and are enjoying the mild temps today.

I am still very new to BYC and want to thank all of you for your kindness and being so helpful to a newbie. It is nice to have some connection to Michigan. Learning a lot and still trying to figure out if any of my 5 chicks are Roos after 6.5 weeks and what to do if one is a roo...

Just wanted to send a howdy and RaZ...I hope you feel better soon!

Welcome to the newcomers!

Most the storms missed me here, less than an inch of rain :( , and tv and landline got funky for a bit. The temp and humidity drop was a blessing yesterday afternoon.
Absolutely gorgeous here today, tho I have no motivation, I did go out and lop some saplings. Tho I hate the thought of using roundup, think I'm gonna have to in a few places, need to get a sprayer.

Welcome, Denise, I'm glad you and mfranks have joined in. There are sections of BYC where people get a little strict about chatting, but this is in the social section and we can talk about anything we want to. I love messing around with my chickens, and they certainly give you a reason to get up and get busy.

It has certainly been a crazy week for me. Last week we began to start seeing more trucks to unload. My first day of extra trucks was going great. It was hot in that trailer with no fan to move air but we were rocking it. We receivers can have water with us since we don't interact with customers. I put away about a litre every hour. At lunch time a couple of guys and I walked out to the gas station for ice tea and candy bars. Walking back I got real light-headed and needed to sit down for a minute. I sat down on the garden centre plant bench and from there just kind of melted to the ground. My boss came up just a few minutes after that and ran to get me a wheel chair. She and a couple of guys got me into the chair and pushed me back into the store and the cool A/C. The coolness helped but wasn't enough to prevent a second episode. So they called the EMTs. And I got a ride in the ambulance to the hospital.

I was dehydrated and had a build up of lactic acid which paralyzed my muscles. Something they called a Near Syncope. Happens a lot in military boot camp and with body builders. They kept me overnight at the hospital and I had an echo stress test the next day. I had had a routine echo just on Monday. But whatever the cardiologist saw with the stress test triggered a heart cath.

Cath was today and revealed an 80% blockage in my LAD, left anterior descending coronary artery.
So guess who gets to see the heart surgeon for another open heart surgery?

Funny thing is that I haven't had any signs or symptoms that might have revealed the blockage. If it wasn't for nearly fainting I wouldn't have known I had a problem. So I guess I got lucky.

I stopped at TSC on the way home. They had chicks they called "Mystic Marans". Never heard of them before. Some kind of cross maybe?
I hope you are feeling better. It's always better to find a problem early! I clerk for an DR and it can get hairy sometimes. About the mystic maran- I bought one from family farm and home. It came from Town Line hatchery in Zeeland Mi. Says is cross of Black copper maran and barred rock. Can't wait to see her full grown. Almost all black with feathered legs.

A lot of crazy rain showers/storms over a couple of days. And the wind got wicked and then dead calm and back to raging again. I lost power in a beautiful calm, sunny day about 2 hours BEFORE the storm hit. DTE said that a sub station blew up and would be back up by 11:00 pm.
Right...took nearly 3 days to get power (this morning).

Yesterday on the way to work I saw a power pole that snapped in half but retained the wires when it fell. They were working on it when I came home. Nearly all of the poles in my township are in bad shape. DTE refuses to make preventative repairs and just waits until one fails.

Had my heart cath on Monday. The news wasn't great. 80% blockage of the left anterior descending coronary artery. It can't be stented so I get another zipper in my chest. Chicks dig scars, right?

Chickens and homestead made it through the storm. Just have to go out and clean up the leaves and branches that fell. It a beautiful sunny day for chores. But only 55 degrees. About 30 degrees too cold for my liking. ;)
