Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Cream Legbars - barred, medium sized, upright comb that folds over in hens, crested, lay beautiful large blue or blue-green eggs with no brown tint at all. Autosexing, cockerels are smudgy with a yellow spot on the head, pullets are chipmunk colored without the spot. My pic shows 3 roos and 2 pullets.

I bought an antique singer sewing machine base a while back and have put off building a top for it. Every time I have to get the sewing machine out and set it up on the dining room table, I loath having to pack it all away when I'm done. So I finally scrounged around the barn for a table top and found this cupboard/closet door. There's an identical one in the bathroom that has been refinished. This one is back in the barn tonight. I spent most of the afternoon stripping it so I can stain it. When finished, it will be mounted so the overhang is on the left (not the right as in the photographs) and I will finish putting the base together (missing pieces are in the garage). Can't wait to get it done!

And I got my BYC calendar in the mail today too. My Barred Rock pullet is Ms. February. It turned out really nice all around. Love all the pictures.
That table top is beautiful!, congrats on the Feb. pic too.

I just posted, if you all could pop over and answer I would greatly appreciate it, here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/725919/12-week-old-chicks-have-puffy-feet

My hubby made one of these tables I loved it but I moved and my place was to small and gave it to my daughter, now I want it back but she won't give it to me because she loves it to, lol

Tap, how do we know are chickens are moulting? Feathers all over right? Well mine are not moulting right now are they suppose to?

Kimmie

If they are under a year old they aren't likely to be moulting. I believe it has to do with light but stress can also bring it on. This year my first started in midSeptember. The majority in October and I have two just getting their feathers all the way in now. Yes lots of feathers all over and bald birds but that doesn't have to be the case. My Polish lose their tails but nothing else, you can just see the pins of new feathers coming in and they look a bit untidy. That and the total stop to the eggs. I have two girls that are bred for egg laying and they start back up in about 4 or 5 weeks from when they quit. Not so with the Polish girls who take at least two months off. I finally was up to 11 eggs today.

Happy Anniversary to you and your DH Laura!

Lady - Love the table. Awesome idea and look, and a great way to re-purpose!

Yesterday I collected the most eggs in a day that I have to date from my gals, and I know that not all of them laid either. There were 10 eggs.

One of my Araucana girls and the EE took the day off. That leaves two of the BAs that just haven't matured quite enough yet and the silkies (1 with chicks, one trying to be broody and two not mature yet).
I keep trying to find the time to finish projects in and around the coop, like putting up some lights for the extended daylight that they are supposed to need for egg production, and for my use in early morning and late evening care. Has anyone else tracked the egg production with and without lights? If egg production is relatively unchanged, I'll pass on the lights for now and work on another project instead. My time is just so limited, I can't afford to waste it on projects that really don't matter.

I am glad it seems like most everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Opa, sorry that you had to get a new stove but glad that things turned out fine.
DH and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary tomorrow
