Hooray. New coupler parts arrived today. Compared to the old ones I am surprised that the log splitter even worked at all.

Do they have a rubber insert?
Nope! My guess is they are sintered metal, formed then hardened. I could be wrong about the composition...engineering school was a L-O-N-G time ago. ;)

My buddy/neighbor came over and helped me put it back together. Another grey beard like me. :old Only cost 1 beer for payment. We were talking about how it is much easier to help a friend do an odious task than it is to do the same task at your own house. I'll be helping him cut, split, haul, and stack wood. After firearm season is over.

Agrees on the sintering, was long ago I learned about that too.
Have just seen other couplers like that with hard rubber inserts to dampen startup torque.

Yes! Some communing can be most motivating.
The engagement is very smooth, no impact that I could feel. We split a face-cord with no hiccups at all.
