Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Melting snow, good. Mud, bad. It's that time of year! Birds aren't laying so well right now, probably due to last week's cold. Also, one morning (noon, when I got out there) their waterers were frozen solid, because somebody must have flown into the circuit breaker, tripping it, and shutting off the heated waterer bases. :he
Everyone was thirsty, naturally, and lacking water isn't so good for egg production. If anything can go wrong, it will, sooner or alter.

Pallets too heavy to handle too?
Not at all. They are all stacked in a neat row along side the path. Same goes for the pavers that didn't get put down last year.

I didn't like the idea of walking on snow covered pallets all winter long. Not a safe venture in my opinion.

Now's the time then, eh?
Not yet. I still have snow banks left over from plowing the paths. Some standing water from today's melt which will be ice after tonight when the temp drops.
Some of the worst snow here has come in March. So I'm going to wait a bit. There was one year when I didn't have a muddy spring. So going to keep my fingers crossed for that.

Meyer hatchery is in driving distance for some of us, it's a bit SW of Cleveland. At least in 'normal' times, when having to use public rest rooms isn't such a bad idea...
From here it would be a day's drive, round trip, but I'm not doing it this spring. too soon.

I hear you Mary. My parents live in NW Ohio so I may take the road trip while visiting them. Easier when you have a safe place to stop for sure.

anyone else getting a little stir crazy?

@Mfranks, Yup, I'll be checking the Townline website. I asked Dave (I hate to keep calling him "the guy") at TSC, and he said that they did get Blues from Townline last year. Townline doesn't list them now, but they actually list very few. TSC had only straight run Barred Rock and straight run Cornish yesterday. Dave said they were getting pullets today, but he never knows what breeds they will get.

TSC also had a sign saying there was a 4 chick minimum. 4 is the max I plan to get, so it'll be kind of an all or nothing shot with TSC.

I just went to the Meyer site... no Blue Aussies... Black Aussie, Blue other things.

I am not really ready for chicks yet. No broody (which might not happen, I know), and still cold. I got chicks last year on March 24, and that timing worked pretty well for brooding indoors.

@aart - so am I!! No one believes that since I travel for work and never see the same people in a month. But as quickly as I can turn it on...I cant wait to turn it off....

@Sally PB - you and I got on the chick wagon almost at the same exact time!! I’m glad to know Townline supplies other breeds...I was ready to make the road trip! Sorry about the wiff on the blues from Meyer. I could swear I saw them on the site...I think im going to give it a few weeks before I add a few more chicks!

Looks like a sunny day today...Enjoy it everyone:cool:
