Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I think I last downloaded my crap to you guys was last week. It has been hectic. I gave up on the coop design because X took over and too much fight. So I gave it up. I will till around to put the hardware cloth that I hate under about 6". I also took pictures of my girls at 10 wks. They have no room in the water container. When I take the food and water out to replenish, they run like crazy around the bucket. They are hilarious.
There is finally some sort of a frame in the top and one side of board is going up as I write here. Said I was going to eat but I cannot be there and he has his own ideas. Next time, I pay someone to do what I like. Anyways, I am not done rambling, :lau :he

Here are some pictures. It has been raining plenty, like every evening.

That tarp, gone! 30 bucks for a good wind.

Not sure if I will put this inside or outside. If outside, it will need holes on the other side.

Now the girls:

Legs look normal to me. I think she is a girl for sure. She is the Big Kahuna of all.

But that beak is powerful!
This is Monica

Legs look normal. She is at the bottom of the totem pole. She is very shy and barely comes to me. Normal legs and also think is a girl.

Now, Rachel, aha, She used to be shy but she has come around plenty. She loves for me to pet her back and squats for me. Normal legs and think is a girl also.

Blanch, she is the odd looking one. Puffy cheeks and green legs. Also looks normal and like a girl. She loves to be pet and squats for me.

Now Sophia is a trip. She was the tiniest one when I first got them. She is a runner for sure. She still has baby fuzz. However, here is the fun part. She is shorter than everyone and when I bring a treat, they all come like velociraptors to my hand. She can barely reach from under everyone. So, she goes out and flies over all of them and lands right on my hand. Like, hey, I can be there right in the center no matter what you all do. :lau:love:lau I also think she is a girl.

Now my Rose, This is weird and amazing of all. She was as little as Sophia. However, she hit a growth spur and her legs, Jesus, they look like from a dinosaur. They are huge. She has a big comb and I see some waddles? They are not too red but I think she is a boy. I feel bad because if she is a he, I cannot keep him. I will have to re-home him or make soup. It breaks my heart either way.

Please give me advice. I take anything from you all because I know you know. My X knows squat about chickens or construction.

Wow Dreamz. Looking good!

Dreamz I can't believe how big your girls have grown. I know it's hard when someone else "helps", I had to get some help when I was putting up the walls and roof on mine and the guy was kind of a jerk. But the coop got finished much faster than it would be otherwise, and it turned out quite well in the end, so the irritation factor was worth it.

You are probably safer in the UP anywhere all alone then you are anywhere else in the state. I love going out to the Western UP and hitting the Keweenaw peninsula, one of the most beautiful places anywhere in Michigan.

This weather is getting hard to take.
Even though the sun was out it was cold and windy. Air temp was in the 40s but wind chill was in the 30s. Working in the garden centre was rather unpleasant.
Radio report says that it will be in the 20s tonight. I brought in all of my potted plants.

My chickens and ducks aren't phased at all. I'm jealous of their built-in down coats.

Yes.
There is a story behind the name. And it's not related Betty Boop.
Bettie Page?

The wind was definitely uncomfortable.
Dropped into the 20's last night, frost on the roofs.
Supposed to get a couple more of those mid week.

The coop add on is done! It took about 8 hours. I'll post pictures in my build thread tomorrow. We still have to put the metal on the roof.

We had to shut the chickens out while the we cut the side wall of the coop out. Poor Lark kept going up the ramp to the pop door, and it was closed. I tried to explain that it was ok if she laid in the run today, but she held it. And held it. And finally about 5:30, the door opened, and she went. No lounging today! In and out in about 20 minutes.
