Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It is a rock factory here, mostly crushed chunks of Dolomite ranging from pebbles to a volkswagon, and various fist to several foot granite and other glacial remnant boulders. Embedded in the toughest clay I have experienced. So far my brush hog blade has held up, but the mower has had several blade casualties. I've learned on the tractor to not look back when you run over something hard (small trees, downed logs, etc), to avoid being hit in the face with flying chunks. And to wear a hat to protect the back of your head as well. You would think after 10 years the rocks would be mostly dug up, but each winter a new litter works up from underground.

I found a nice pink granite a little bigger than a softball while working in the garden.

The ground around the house and garage is sticky yellow clay with an abundance of rocks. But on the far side of the garage is all fine sand that they call sugar sand. Then to the east in the woods are several sinkholes, a small sink along the road. There is also an old limestone quarry about 500 feet towards the lake.

That's why I love this place. So much variety thanks to the glaciers. Plus the many birds, insects, amphibians, wildlife, and plants. I even have horse tails growing here. Had a big ribbon snake out enjoying the sunny day.

Same here. I have a garden up on a hill that is heavy, heavy clay, but full of earthworms and grows great tomatoes. I have a garden down in a valley that is very sandy, very few worms, but grows great beans, taters, onions, garlic, and squash.

The valley is right below the hill. The soils are so different, so close by.

Hope everyone had a super productive day today! It was really sunny and HOT. I woke up and got my plants watered then I checked on the ducks and gave them some water. Afterwards I got the garden all set up and ready to go.

Started a fire to help burn some logs up

Got the garden going planting the potted plants

Bought the ducks a new hard pool for them to swim in (think I'm gonna dig a hole in the ground to put the pool in since they had a hard time getting in and out even with the ramp)

Let Bo out in a log themed play pin which was super cute

And gonna finish the day with heading to the gym :)

I did!
Was just thinking it was more productive than many of my days.

That might will make it very hard to dump and refill.
