Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hi all and glad to see everyone mulling around getting ready for winter to arrive.

yesterday was a very nice day indeed. It was so nice to meet Mary and Lizette. Thank you again for your hospitality Mary. Working on the coop this weekend installing 2ply polycarbonate panels to the run for wind/snow protection. The JD people are coming on Tuesday to put the snow blower on the tractor. They should do that the first time right? I mean…i did buy a tractor for goodness sake. Would be nice to show me how to change the attachments in real time.🤦🏻‍♀️

hope things are going well for everyone.

We had a very nice visit yesterday, except that no plants left, not my plan at all! And the coop was not pretty; needed more shavings and major cobweb cleanout. Never mind...
Today, cold and windy, but at work. DH didn't let the birds out, so everyone was cozy on their roosts when I got home. No counting necessary, either!
Need to get hay tomorrow morning, and give the horses another round bale.
It's not actually snowing here, rather pelting ice pellets. Winter is on the way!
Might get up at 4am to see the eclipse, if it clears off by then. Or maybe not...
Mary
The cobweb build up always amazes me. One day you have bare walls and by the next weekend the walls and ceiling are completely covered.

Veterinary Science says that you shouldn't feed round bales.
Horses need a square meal.
:gig

I was up at 4:30 (damn pain & insomnia). Clear sky and a beautiful view of the eclipse. It was as red as I had expected. Still cool to see.

I think I mentioned some time ago that a buddy got me a new woodstove with a bigger firebox. I had mentioned that mine was too small and didn't burn all night.

Anyway, I had my chimney swept and inspected. I asked if they could set the new stove. Got a call yesterday and they will do it for about $400, parts and labour. I think I can afford that with my next SS allowance. And if I don't have the full amount they will let me make payments. I love the small town life.

Oh it's that kind of Jeep. The ones that are actually cars. Or little trucks. 😝

Frankie, make sure you shoot video of how they do the attachments. There are several different attachment types, and some of them can be a lot harder to do.
Yup. I think of it as a car even though it has 4 wheel drive. The back way in to my house is 2 miles of unimproved road. That's where I found that branch. The trail is on state land and follows an old Indian trail.

When I got my JD tractor I opted for a 3-point attachment thing called i-Match. So quick and easy to switch attachments. It does has to come off to attach the TSC post hole auger that I bought. The front loader uses 2 hooks and 2 pins to secure attachments. As an engineer I love how well this tractor is designed.

My Kubota has the 2 hook, 2 pin bucket, but the PTO hookups for each piece of equipment are different - a sliding sleeve, not too bad, or a pernicious pin that you have to push in to slide the hookup on.
When I change out the snow blower for the brush hog, or vice versus, I also hit all the grease fittings, powerwash, and check the tires.

Well, I guess this is good news... Freya has worms, hook and whip. Hopefully when they are gone, the diarrhea will be gone as well.

This was her first vet appointment with our usual vet, and it went well. She didn't like the nail trim, but got it done. She has good range of motion, and the internals sound good too. Some vaccines, dewormer (fenbendazole), and a follow up in two weeks.

Is fenbendazole something I've seen people here talk about as a dewormer for chickens? It sounded vaguely familiar.

The only PTO attachment I have is the post hole auger. The slide coupling is a bit awkward due to the safety cover. The arthritis in my hands doesn't help either.

Used the tractor to drag out a dead pine to the east edge of my property. I'm using dead pine logs to try to keep the snow mobiles from running the power line trail. Snow mobiles are even more obnoxious than the dirt bikes.

Just finished lunch so now I'll go back out and cut some more firewood. It's a beautiful sunny day but cold. Temp is in the mid-30s but the wind chill is in the 20s.
