Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It's about balance! We need complex carbohydrates, and fats, and the right amino acids in our diets. And we crave fat, sugar, and salt, because these items were hard to find for most of the time our species has been here. Now that all these nutrients are so readily available we want to overeat them!
I've learned to love green tea, and iced unsweetened tea, rather than colas. It took time, but so worth it!
Now about chocolate; it's the fifth food group, right?!

I didn't know that, makes sense though.

When we became aware of how detrimental the regular sodas were because of the sugars, we had a dumping party and got all of it off the property. If it's offered at parties we tend to decline and ask for water instead. I have loved teas for all of my life and drink lots of it. It is very seldom that we buy pre-made tea, rather we buy bulk dry tea and make our own.

We group it in right with all the rest of the food groups and we like to think that whoever made the food groups simply forgot about chocolate, so we handily add it ourselves. We DO NOT like Hersheys chocolate at all, in our opinion it ranks at the bottom of good chocolates. We eat a considerable amount of chocolate, but it is dark chocolate, usually 72% - 85% dark chocolate. For our chocolate drinks we get the cacao powder and add our own sweeteners if desired.

I read a book titled, The Case Against Sugar. OMG. What an eye opener. It is this century's tobacco, for the health problems it causes. And it's in EVERYTHING.

Like Ranch dressing. It's the 4th ingredient! I made some homemade, and both DH and I thought it was much better.

Recipe?

I'm a card carrying chocolate LOVER! I told someone if DH ever leaves me, I still have chocolate. (He overheard me and said, "When Hell freezes over! And not the town in Michigan." Yup, I'm lucky. I got a good man.)

I drink nothing but un-sweetened seltzer and coffee.
Ghirardelli 60% is my fav.
Have avoided most all white flours and rices for decades.
But I still eat a lot of junk too.<shrugs>

Just un-snowed a place where there was standing water, still not frozen under there.
Gonna take several days to get all the snow cleared away, gotta pace myself.
