Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Not sure what the temperature was today. I worked so I didn't get much exposure to outside until after work. The I picked up another load of pallets from the chimney shop. Got a couple of nice oak one. The others will be good wood projects.

On the way to work this morning I scared up a bald eagle in a field by the road about 6 miles from here. I wonder how big their territory is for hunting.

My young rooster has a bloody ear on the left side of his face. I'm thinking that he lost a challenge to the old roo (his sire). He wouldn't go in to the coop this evening so I guess he was chased out. I couldn't find him but there are several safe areas he can hide in tonight. He's not a good rooster but I don't want to see him become dinner for a predator.

The last couple of nights there have been a pair of young raccoons on the front window, dining on a suet feeder. I'm okay with sharing with them as long as they don't bother my birds. Tonight I has a young opossum visit underneath a birdfeeder. I've never had trouble with opossums but I'll still keep an eye on it. I really do love living here.

Little Boy did go into the coop last night. It wasn't good for him. Big Boy kicked the snot out of him. He was hiding in a corner when I left this morning. He was gone from the coop when I got home and I haven't seen or heard him since. He could be anywhere, maybe hiding, maybe dead. It's pretty clear that he isn't welcome in Big Boy's flock. Two roosters is one too many. LB wasn't a good rooster in any way but I do feel bad for him.

Wooping 40 today. This morning saw a northern cardinal fly right by my head. The juncos are not around but the other black birds are on the far back side of the property on a tree that sits on neighbor's yard.
So far, so good. Had to go and buy 2 more feeders just in case. They should have enough food everywhere. No sassy snacks but they will get that when I get back. They are outside for a bit right now enjoying some melted ice and dried up grass, lol

40 here, woohoo. But the compost pile is still solid as a rock. So is the chip pile, but I can scrape a little bit off the south side of it.

It's supposed to rain this weekend, which is too bad. DH and a friend had talked about getting together for a project, but it would be outside.

The guy who owned the "old house" that we bought when it went into foreclosure was a hoarder. He had a few old cars that left when he lost the place (they might have been worth something) and the body of an old Subaru out in his barn. The barn fell down, and DH finally got the old Subaru out of it, and wants to cut it up for scrap, with the help of the friend. Fine by me. Lots and lots of old junk in that barn, but some of it is cool old farm stuff too, like a hay trolley.

It hit 38 here today/ Now it's going down to 20 overnight. It will be another month or more before things really thaw. I don't put in my garden until Memorial Day weekend. I'll start working the compost piles a week or 2 before that.

I don't know where LB was all day but he was back when I went out to close up the coop. I had a visitor in the coop. An adult opossum was eating an egg. Tossed out the egg then the opossum. Then LB decided to go in. He is still beat up but he looks better. I'll be keeping an eye on him tomorrow.

Yes, it is supposed to rain and maybe a light snow on Sunday. I am thinking of leaving Sunday evenning. Just have to work hard this weekend. I am hoping to clean the coop out of the deep litter stuff and get the sand back in but not too sure if it still going to get cold at nights. What should I do?

I would leave the deep litter for another month. It could still get down to single digits until the first of April.
