Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

🤷‍♀️ Well. I don't know what to add. That's a lot of birds, and a lot of time, effort, and money into raising them. Potentially a lot of income, I assume, else why would you do it. Potentially a huge loss if they contract AI.

How soon do you need to start this endeavor? I don't know if the AI threat will lessen with time, but it might. 🤷‍♀️

Yall....the mud here is so. Stinkin. Bad. That my 3 mares all have hugely swollen hot and painful legs, and the chickens are running through it all day. I'm guessing the horses swollen legs are cellulitis...and the vet is coming tomorrow...and we plan to treat it, but I dont know how it will heal since there isnt a square inch of land on this property that ain't soaked. Sorry this is so random, I'm just so SICK of MUD.

Checking in. Got tagged by the Rona 3 weeks ago. No clue as to how I got it, as I'm all vaccinated and always masked up anywhere inside, and not eating out yet. Mostly I just had a nasty stuffy nose, sinus headache, achy, and a fever at the start of it. I've been sicker, but still knocked me out for 2 weeks of work and I'm not quite back to 100 percent. At least as far as I know I only gave it to Amy and nobody else, and she wouldn't have been in a position to readily spread it. Just sucked dealing with it. Anyways, I was able to get out most days to check on the girls, just left egg collection to mom as I didn't want to go inside the house. Did opt to do some curbside pickups for feed at FFH.

Anyways, kinda thinking about not doing any new egg layer chicks right now as I'm pretty full in the coop and getting plenty of eggs right now. Might do some meat birds when things warm up some more. Just have to see what's available then. Oh, and I ordered some new plastic deer fencing that should be a little more heavy duty than some of the stuff that I had been getting locally. Had a lot of issues with rips and tears with it, and it was a pain in the butt. Just got dropped off at the farm this morning and pretty sure that it shouldn't be an issue for me now.

Glad you're feeling better! I had a 'breakout case' last August, six months after being vaccinated, then got monoclonal antibodies, and boostered at Thanksgiving. Feel pretty safe now, but not invincible, and DH isn't in any shape to get anything, so the masks are still being worn.
No new chicks this year, because I'm full, having all the birds indoors all the time due to AI.
They are managing, but might have to remove some to make things better anyway.
Snowing right now, beautiful! Definitely still winter in Michigan.
The geese and Sandhill cranes are back, and the vultures. Spring is on the way!

Hi all🤓
I can hardly believe it's only been two weeks to the day since we got our baby chicks but it's is true! So here is a side by side..what a difference! They have grown dramatically! New pen already, still in the house here. Loving it❣️

Got about an inch of snow overnight. Something that the radio people completely missed.
Starting to get a few more eggs. I had enough to share a dozen with a friend. With all of my birds being over 2 YO, I'm thinking a few chicks before too long. I'm still arguing with myself about it.

It's still pretty cold here but I have a nice fire going. Going to have supper and then call it an early night. A good book and warm covers seem to be in order.
