Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Dream, I mentioned a long time ago about one of my hens doing the moon walk. I got no responses so don't know why
Is she still doing it? Post it in the disease/illness thread. More people who know about illness will see it there. If you can, get a video of her doing it and upload to YouTube, then link it here.

 I think I remember your post, but I didn't respond because I don't know enough about what that might mean. Sorry....

For some reason I am thinking that behavior has to do with parasites either in the eyes or brain. I also don't know what to do about it as far as professional recommendation, but I have had success with deworming using wazine in chickens with the symptoms expressed. Deworm for three days with a follow-up ten days later and another follow-up ten days after that. It has allways cured the symptom and has not recurred in the same chicken again. It has always happened in my chickens between the age of 7-16 months.

The MJ moon walk is not always but sometimes and only on her. The others just keep doing what they are doing without backtracking or moonwalking, lol

I am beat today. Many of you have kids and know how they act when they are about to ask for something. Hub was nice today and picked up my puter and even put it all together with my help of course because he has no clue what cable goes where. But I told him that he can ask without being nice because I have had kids, lol He wanted to check a military gear site.
Anyways, I gained 20 lbs in just 6 months. So I went last thursday to drumfit again. It was freaking hard. Today went to zumba and it was also difficult. felt llike an idiot. A few seniors had more energy than I do, I know hat I cannot jump but I could barely move my hips. I think I lost my Shakira, :hit

Girls are doing fine. I did let themout some. They are being very good. I am getting 10 eggs a day out of 11 hens. I also cut a thin slice of cake and crumbled it and went outside and sang happy birthday to Tia and Tamera (sebrights) They turn a year today. The others are now 13 months. My girls are getting old!!!

AFter zumba, I went in to begin the treat on the roost again and they forgot to wait for their turn. Need to teach them again, lol P2 is more lovale than Phoebe. She just wants me to pick her up. Poor thing has been stepped on a few times. She gets all over my boots. Need to youtube how to train her in a diaper, give her a dawn spa and let her in for a day. She will love that and I am sure I will too, :lau

Well, time to get this old body in bed. I am making those chicken coasters for June and I think I am in schedule. Love you all!

DH got a fantastic "score" at work. One of their clients was throwing out 10' posts. 25 heavy duty, -\_/- shaped posts. They are going to be holding up fence to protect my garden soon. I have a post pounder, gonna need a ladder to reach the top!

@RaZ, I was thinking of you when he asked if I wanted them. Well, heck yeah!

Nice score Sally.

Work called yesterday to let me know that they had some other stuff they wanted me to haul away. I worked all weekend and asked each day if they needed anything else hauled away. The answer was no. Then after I worked yesterday, they call and need stuff gone ASAP before the big corporate inspection on Tuesday. Good luck with that.

Where have everybody been? I don't think I've ever seen this thread this slow.
It's so dark and gloomy here lately. Pretty steady rainfall nearly all week. The drains, creeks, and rivers here are flowing fast and high. Surprisingly, my land is draining well and the mud isn't bad at all. Still soupy in spots but easy enough to maneuver around most of the property. Even the back 2-tracks to home are completely passable. Found that out when I went to town early this morning for an appointment.

I had a dental appointment at 8 this morning. I completely forgot that I need a massive dose of antibiotics before a simple cleaning so all they did was x-rays and I have to go back for the cleaning. Anywho...stopped at TSC to nose around. Chicks all looked good and well cared for. That was good to see. I found a sack of clover and pasture seed mix that looks like might help me cover some of this bare ground. Going to give it a try.

Now I just have to decide if I want to do outside or inside clean-up chores.

I spent three days cutting trees down, mostly trying to save the pond embankment. I have almost all the trees smaller than about 6 inches out. I don't have a good plan for the bigger trees. The best idea have so far is to partially girdle them to keep them from making a bigger problem. I think if I regirdle them and/or extend or deepen the girdling every year or two, I can get the roots to decompose slowly enough to not lose the embankment. I hope. And at some point, the wind will take the trees down - learned that method from the beavers. :)

The progress is really encouraging, it is finally getting pretty noticeable.

I've started thinking about what to plant on the embankment. I'd like grass but the big trees are still shading it too much and I don't have a mower that I can get back up there. Maybe raspberries?

I also took a third of each of three of the apple trees along the hay field edge. In a few more years, they should be doing really well. And took out all of the scotch pine seedlings from in the hay field but didn't do much with the autumn olive resprouts or floribunda rose resprouts or the mulberry resprouts. Also a few more of the big scotch pines from a couple of different fields.

And took a look at the potential for selling the standing timber from a red pine plantation, a bit of white pine plantation, possibly a few hardwoods that might be saleable, and the old Christmas tree plantation. Lol, the "Christmas trees" are Douglas Fir well over 60' tall and are 3' in diameter. They are incredibly beautiful! I'd like to keep them, they are very healthy and have many decades of life left before I have to worry about them getting past their peak (unusual this far from their native range according to the forester) but I'd rather log them than let the timber thieves steal any more of them. They have already stolen at least 15. And, of course, left a huge mess of the limbs and tops.

I also took a good look at the dump rakes that I want to use to make a playpen/daypen for the chickens. And measured them. I think that project will work - if the bird flu will go away.
