OMG! Went to check on lil mama and to try to get her out of nesting box and eat but found that since I moved the regular egg from underneath her, she saw baby mama (smallest sebright) was trying to lay her egg,so she cuddled with her thinking she will have her egg to sit on. Sorry, I busted her bubble and reached under baby mama and grabbed her egg and lil mama stormed out all fluffed up screaming like I am stealing her eggs, lol she is walking around all fluffed and bawking without ceasing. Hilarious the chicken stories we can tell, lol
Then just now, I went and got her and made her one scrambled egg so she can eat before bed. She ate and told her that I will try to find him a boyfriend so she can be a mama. Then noticed on the camera that she is back on the nest. Kids never listen, lol

The beef suet that I have been putting out has drawn a lot of visitors. Not only do the woodpeckers like it so do many other birds. Lots of the smaller song birds are getting some of that nice fat. Just minutes after mounting a chunk, a crow landed on the suet and ate nearly half of it. Then it worked loose a big piece that it flew away with. I'm pretty sure that a pair are nesting just across from me. Since it isn't raining (for a change) I'll have to take a walk in the woods and look for nesting neighbors. Best kind of neighbor IMO.

Well, new commode going on now as I just took lil mama out 2 times ffrom the nesting box. However, since a few still need to lay, I cannot close the door on her. How fast can she go broody again? Hope after boyfriend gets here. :lau

Hub told me that when he heard me telling her that mami will find her a boyfriend, that I sounded like the comedian Anjela Johnson, lol

It was a beautiful sunny morning here until noon. Clouds are beginning to thicken. It's still on the chilly side at 36 degrees.
Yesterday was pretty nice and I was outside most of the day. Got the post hole digger put on the tractor. That was a bit of a PITA. Had to add almost a quart of gear lube to the gear box but I knew it was low from the last time I used it. Now I can get the garden and chicken run posts all reset for new fencing.

Planted a rose and a peach tree and sowed some ground cover. Starting picking up yard debris. Mostly it was tarps that covered the wood piles. The tarps are several years old and pretty tattered. Moved a few piles of pallets to a work area behind the garage so I can break them down for other uses. It looks a little bit better than an abandoned warehouse.

The best thing about yesterday was firing up the old car. She was a little reluctant to wake up but she did and ran like a dream. I can hardly wait until I can get her back on the road.

Set alarm for sure for this morning. Put a wood piece across the nesting boxes so Lil Mama gets roosting like the others. Not happy and so fluffy, lol she is roosting. Tomorrow is another day! Last year before she was a year old , she did it twice. This year now in April, so I still have 4 more to go,lol The Battle Of The Broody Chicken!

Got the wood out of teh nesting boxes right as the light turned on this morning on their coop. Lil' mama laid her egg and went back out. Has been walking around with her tail like a peacock, lol As I gathered the eggs, they came out for about 10 minutes and I herd them back in with the "small red shovel" Since my BP keep staying about 150, I went back to bed. Got up around 1pm and it was 142. So, I went to check for more eggs and nothing. Seems like they can smell a little snow in the air and do not lay. While I put more feed and cleaned their water bowls and replenished with nice clean water, they escape out again but the dog was out. Once I was done, I herd them back in. So a second outing for another 15 minutes. Lil' mama still like a peacock, all feathered up and fluffy, lol She is so sweet, poor thing.
Hub called me Anjelah again when I was herding them in and told them " go in, mami is searching for boyfriend" We both crack up with the boyfriend joke.

Cloudy out this way. Settle for a trip tomorrow. All looks good. Just down the road for a few hours. Need to get some Puerto Rican stuff like Culantro, Plantains, green bananas, Yuca, and other roots to cook. I have tried to grow culantro and cilantro and it is always a futile event. I can grow peppers and garlic but not Onions either. No problems with tomatoes but I use tomatoes rarely. I tried doing tomato sauce and it was way too much work. I might try it again but with the food processor and then can it. If I can find all of my jason jars and lids, lol a year and half and still have no clue where everything is at after the move.
The comode..... Nope, not a chance. Need to find a plumber. So 4 days and counting. I am glad that I have my bathroom working fine. :thumbsup

I'm on the way home from visiting my kids (and a little shopping). It was wonderful to see them.

Shopping was successful: I'm delighted to have 11 more hedge posts (osage orange posts) for the pasture fence. I'd like more but that is all the weight I want to haul at once. I'm still trying to decide whether to plant a row to harvest posts from. Or maybe plant a living fence. I picked up enough seeds on other visits and stratified them. The indecision is that I don't want them to spread too much. I think I can take out either the males or the females to contain the spread. I'm just not sure I want to have that much trouble between the thorns and the density of the wood and how many years I would need to wait until they mature enough to tell which are which.

I managed to NOT get chicks. 😢. That was very hard. This is the only chance I'll have to pick them up directly from the hatchery which I MUCH prefer.

I have a broody hen. I don't even try to break broodies any more. It seems that they just turn around in another week or two and go broody. My broody is setting in the rabbit hutch. Poor rabbit gets pecked at when she tries to go in. There's two "rooms" in hutch, but of course the hen is sitting right in front of the door. Have to put food out for the rabbit.
Today is going to be a beautiful sunny day. Enjoy!
