The first one is like an automated cup and the second one is a horizontal nipple. My girls always refused the nipples but I am not sure if they were veritical or horizontal,lol

2nd link are the best, IMO.
They work well all year around, and the best for heated waterer in winter.

What kind of heated waterer? I had this past witer the heater dog bowl and worked really well and it did not got that dirty. I guess now they are dust bathing more often and I chaged them to this: ( boughted in TSC a lot cheaper than Amazon,lol)

What kind of heated waterer?

I have a DIY, but there are a few nice pre-made ones out there.

We like the one from Premier 1. Water stays nice and clean. The only problem we have once in awhile in the winter is the lid freezing shut if we splash water around the rim while filling. If that happens we just bring it in for a little while til it thaws. It doesn't happen all the time. It would probably help if we'd make sure we wipe the top if we splash water.
