Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Chicky, maybe you can get a baby goat and keep it in the house. I doubt it will make more of a mess than baby chicks.

Dreamz, mature birds often need long slow cooking, such as braising at low temperatures for a long time. Coq a vin would be one good recipe.

I tried eating birds raised here, but lost my appetite every time they were cooked and on the plate. Just couldn't eat them. I know I could if I had to, but I just don't have to.

Half the chicken shed is clean, plus the nests and the wall by the nests.

A gallon green tea jug, plus a square kitty snacks container worked well for the grit. A second, matching tea jug and matching kitty snacks jug worked well for some of the oyster shell. I think one more tea jug for the rest of the oyster shell will do it. For the opened bag, at least. I was wasting too much space using five gallon pails and frosting buckets. The new containers should fit on the shelves better.

The hens helped me sort pantry moths out of the extra half bag of chicken feed I forgot I had in the garage. They were less impressed with sorting the dry ashes but approved of sifting the litter out of the bathtub and adding some of the ashes to it.

We listened to the last half of "The Short Victorious War" and started on "The Field of Dishonor." And enjoyed the day. :)

Barnyard mixes. The hen hatched thirteen chicks and still has all thirteen.

Give Sam my best wishes. I sure miss talking to him. I lost his contact info when I moved up here. I always enjoyed visiting with him and swapping stories around his table or in the workshop.

Had a bit of a mishap with my chainsaw on Sunday. Nice little cut on my leg that bled like a stuck pig. Finally had to use Gorilla wood glue to stop the bleeding. It did bleed a little more on Monday while I was at work. Sure made a mess of the house before it finally stopped. Had to re-launder all of the towels and bedding and mop the floor a couple of times. You all know how much I hate housework.

I had to have my water softener and RO system replaced. The old system was shot, leaking, and corroded. I went with a Culligan system since I can rent it rather than pay for it all at once. The guy said that I should only have to buy salt every 16 - 20 weeks. Much more efficient that the old system. Now all I have to worry about is replacing the leaking washing machine the non-functional furnace. I need a fairy godmother or gofundme page. :he
