Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I have 4 hens right now but am considering getting 2 more in the spring. I have 1 RIR and 3 Americanaus. Does anyone have any suggestions on a breed and has anybody ever ordered from mypetchickens.com? My chickens are not very loud and I live in a neighborhood so quite breeds are what I'm looking for but I would like to get a different breed than what I currently have. What is your experience with mypetchickens.com? Or does anybody sell chicks on here? Thanks!
I'm looking for hens :)

Glad... You shoud get a few propane buddies. When we first bought this house, we were only here for a week, and the LP ran out before they could get us filled. Good thing we were going with a different provider than the previous owner. Well anyway, no heat with a baby in the house... SO, we whipped out the propane buddies and wahlah! Heat. The nice thing is they are approved for indoor use. We still cracked the windows an inch. They worked better than electric heaters in the downstairs rooms. Heat rises, so we used the buddies down stairs and 2 electric heaters upstairs. Always good to have on hand along with generators. I need to learn how to hook the generator up to the well in the event that the power goes out here...

Anyway, no snow here... horrible wind took down trees, but nothing near my house or coops.

mrcush, there is a spring get-together of BYC members called chickenstock - many people bring birds, chicks, eggs, honey, plants etc to sell, trade and give away. There is a big put luck lunch ands kids activities.

Thoughts and prayers for those up north with power problems. The snow around Kalamazoo was pretty much gone by noon yesterday, a few patches holding on but not much. Now it's just a wet and muddy mess.

Opa, I also did all of our shopping this morning but mine was out of necessity for coffee and I added all the Christmas dinner requirements. Meijer is actually tolerable at 0600, I think it was me and about 5 other customers. As our family has grown larger and older we now draw a single name to send a gift. Of course the kids now seem to get even more presents.

Christmas cooking starts tomorrow, pumpkin and apple pies.

So, just got home from day 2 of finding birds. On craigslist this AM found an ad for 8 free hens and a rooster. Had to get a chuckle, I asked the guy on the phone if he knew what breed they were...he asked his wife, "honey, do you know what brand these chickens are?" LOL So we figured a 45 min drive wouldn't hurt. We loaded up the dog kennel and a couple of boxes in the car and off we went. Got there to find that there was a white silky, 2 silver laced wyandotte's, as well as the rooster and a hen that are golden wyandotte's there were also a couple australopes, and what I think is a RIR. So quite the coop full now with the 5 bantams that we picked up yesterday... :)

I just hit meijer for the makings of Italian wedding soup. It wasn't to bad since I was not in there to get toys, clothes, or major shopping. I have everything for Xmas dinner now... I only needed the ham. That was close enough to the produce department that I was able to be in and out in 30 minutes. The longest wait? Some guy at the check out with 3 orders and WIC. I mean really? Couldn't he have done it all at one time? Nope... 4 different cards. I think he was an authorized shopper for a group home... I wouldn't want that job. All those shopping lists! LOL

Anyway. Not having apple or pumpkin pies. I am making a homemade banana cream with the meringue topping and vanilla wafer crust. Oh. Yum. Yup.

I'm liking all this talk about shopping Meijer. You guys keep it up.
