Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

No, not really. 45 min away. Save one for me when we have our next picnic.

Lots of snow. Everyone stay safe. RaZ, are you doing ok? Keeping warm?
Sort of Rose.
It's been cold and quite windy for the last couple of days. Wind chill in the low to mid-teens. At least the house is well insulated. The heater I bought doesn't seem to be big enough for any room other than the bathroom. At least the toilet seat is warm.

I have all of the well seasoned firewood in the house or waiting on the porch. That's about a face cord of wood ready to burn. I have more in the racks outside but it still too green to burn. There are a few standing dead ash trees on my property and the state land. I don't think that I can take any wood from the state land. That land is also crawling with hunters right now so I'm avoiding the area. I'm keeping the worst of the chill off for now. I'm happy that the pipes haven't froze yet.

I'm trying to get a loan from the credit union so I can get a furnace. My credit stinks so I don't have much hope there. They call that "house rich" and "cash poor". :he

The gold finches have returned. The thistle feeder has been occupied all day. I love seeing those little birds. I like seeing all birds and critters that come to the feeders.

I went out to visit my chickens this afternoon, and there was snow in coop from the gusty southwest wind. I have furnace filter material over half the opening, but the top 8" is covered with just hardware cloth.

I stapled a piece of shower curtain over the opening, and it made an instant difference. I don't want to lose that much ventilation, so I need to find something else, tomorrow. If I don't have any more filter material, I'll use some t-shirts.

Maybe we need to plan a woodcutting day for you. Anybody from here that wants to, can help. What say brother?

Randy, there are firewood permits available for state forest lands. Unfortunately they cost $20, that's not terrible though considering you get five standard cords. Here's a link to the website, looks like they have a service center in Bay City

I would recommend waiting until after the gun season is over though.
Those permits are only good for the upper lower peninsula and that is way north of me. In my area I can't get a permit.

I've been dragging wood off my property but most of it needs to season for a while.
It's also been too darn cold to go out and bring it home.

I did get some in today. It was snow covered and is now melting off in the house. Added humidity, right?
