Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I was actually already supposed to go to midland to meet some family for lunch but that canceled since my grandma took a spill down some stairs and is now in the hospital with two cracked vertebrae in her neck, a fractured knee, and a fracture eye socket and nasal cavity. She’s also got stitches and such. She’s needed lots of extra care so I won’t be able to come but I wish I could have.
Oh, pickles, hope it all get healed soon. It's OK because I might not go either. Can't wear shoes, lol

No rain or ice here - never got above 18 degrees, heading downwards now towards below zero. Lots a lots of snow, anywhere the wind did not blast it away, around 9-10 inches so far. My sweet neighbor plowed me out today so I did not have to get on the tractor when I got home - he was bored  . I had a dentist appointment in Cheboygan, about a 25 mile drive across the Bridge, roads were decent and fortunately there were not many vehicles on them.

Hey Dreamz I like your Avatar
Lucky you! Chech you out modeling that UP,lol
I found that picture from 10 years ago on a thumb drive I found in a moving box, 2 years after I moved 😆

@aart, are you ok?

Anyone heard from @aart today?
I made it thru 65 41 hours without power, it came back on 24+ hours sooner than the restoration estimate.
I survived, but it wasn't any fun at all.
Luckily temps the first day were in the low 40's and the firewood I had provided some relief.
Tho the wind was fierce and I had a back draft that filled the house with nauseating wood smoke smell, went to bed early to escape it a bit and warmed up in my quilt cave.
Have an old backpacking stove to heat water for coffee and cook some eggs this morning.
Colder today, just below freezing, chased the shivers away with another layer of clothing.
Just incredibly relieved to have the house heating up again. WHEW!

Glad you got your power back. We did too. We only lost it for just over 24 hours

So I just happened to accidentally call the local feed store to see if they had the breeds I wanted even though I called yesterday and no where had them. And by golly they had them so whoopsie I accidentally went to the feed store and stood patiently in line while everyone else in the county got their chicks, and when I walked up I just like that told the lady I wanted 4 americana/Easter eggers and 2 black australorps. But ya know whats funniest of all?! The lady who was not that happy to be working today didn’t count right and put 8 in there!!! No joke!!!! I was like :th:wee:clap:ya I already struggle with chicken math but this lady boxed up eight wee ones wrote on the paper 6 and walked away. I was like well I can’t put the poor things back now!!!I totally could have gotten two free ones but I wanted to be honest and told the lady at the desk I had eight in there. I now have two extra Americana/Easter eggers. Oh well. What a tragedy. 🤣

Edit- well I hope I got the breeds I asked for. We all know how farm stores mislabel chicks. I believe they are the breeds I asked for but I’m the long run it doesn’t matter for me. As long as they are pullets- which again they are supposed to be 😂

It is highly honorable to be honest about things like this. It will be well with you to continue doing it in your life. You will get a reputation for being an honest person and that's a value that is very underated a lot.

81 days till I get chicks. So thank you for posting pictures of yours.

Sunny bright outside right now, but I know our road is ice/snow/snice. I didn't go down the hill, but just walking around the yard is difficult.

I second that. Here's something I read in Reader's Digest:
"Always tell the truth. You might get a hole-in-one when you're alone on the golf course."

Thanks everyone. 😊 I’m so not perfect but I try to be honest. Also, this is totally off topic, but does anyone happen to have two ducks they are wanting to rehome/sell? Either a male and female or two females. A friend of mine got out of ducks a few years back but is wanting to get some again.

Woke up with a scratchy throat and feeling of being "off". I hope it is nothing more than a slight cold. I haven't been sick all winter and I don't want to start now. I am feeling quite lazy though. I had to force myself to go let the chickens out. Found 2 hens sitting so I'll gather eggs later.

I stopped at TSC and FFH the other day after work. Neither had the chicks that I'm considering. TSC had a nifty brooder heater for $50. One of those radiant jobs that can be used horizontally or vertically. I'm not ready for chicks yet but I'm making some plans. I'll have to get another stock tank to use as a brooder. My old one isn't serviceable for chicks. It would be cheaper to forgo showering and brood them in the bathtub.
