Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

It has been bad enough that my eyes are itchy. That is a more sure indicator than my chest feeling tight - that can be from anxiety about it and I can't tell which it is. It might be both. Besides seeing the brown haze clearly.

It has been bad enough long enough often enough that I don't think staying inside is helping. I think the people who say stay inside because of the smoke assume people have air conditioning that puts a filter between inside and outside.

Where in the state are you @CedarLane ?
Smoke map shows it has shifted east a bit.
Seemed clearer today, even saw a spot or two of blue sky,
but when I got on the road and could see much longer distances than from my window it really showed up. It was definitely thicker east of me.

It's gonna really stink(literally) later today when the temps climb and I have to turn on the whole house fan to cool it off in here.
Mid to Southern Thumb Area. It's getting worse. I can see it in the air again like I did on Tuesday. Though I'm not smelling it, I can tell it's there. When we went to town, I could really see it hanging over the fields.

Earlier today the denser part was over the east side of the state, now it's moved farther east. The visible haze and the smell seems to vary, I went out about an hour ago to turn on the coop fan and it really stunk..... yes, I turned on the coop fan because it's hot in there. Hate to add to the 'pollution' in there but better than them suffering from the heat.

You can turn your furnace to run on just the fan and that will filter the air, depending on how good a filter you have. If you have a vent that lets in outside air a lot of times you can close them.

The air is thick enough up here that the ships are blowing horn signals as they pass through the straits, usually they only do that when it's foggy

No forced air system here, no AC, so no air filtering.
Opened a couple house windows, but left the whole house fan off.

I must be in the only area of the state that was smoke free today. It was beautiful here all day. Now the almost full moon is in a cloudless sky and casting shadows. Fireflies are everywhere and saw a few bats too.
All in all a pretty good day.
Well that didn't last long.
I foolishly listened to the radio weatherman who claimed zero chance of rain for the next 2 days. I gave the new(old) car a thorough cleaning inside, outside, and everywhere. I woke to rain and it kept up as an off and on thing all day. Now I'm even getting thunder & lightening. So much for a clean car.

I picked up chicks today. The tally is 6 EEs, 4 Marans, and 7 BO. All pullets. Plus 2 BO males. The TSC person said that they were boys for sure and then checked her interweb for confirmation. We will see how that turns out. ;)
They are all safety residing in their new brooder. I watched them all eat and drink before I called it a night. The 2 adult hens are pretty curious about ab out them. All in a good way I think. I have a good feeling about this mix. :thumbsup:fl

BTW, I made this brooder out of one of the carts that I scored from work a couple of years back. I'll have to take a couple of photos to show y'all. I think that I'll make a second brooder that I'll paint and detail and add a few improvements that I've thought of since I hurried the one I used today. Always room for improvement. Right?

I hope everyone stays healthy during this crazy time.

Pics of chicks too, please. Get yourself a Marans boy and you can get Olive Eggers and Midnight Majesty Marans.
Haven't had time to post much here. Had to rush to build a brooder to get Momma BCM onto the floor. 3 BCM's and 3 OE's. Then I had a coon to catch and a hen with fly strike and lice. Rough couple weeks.

Got babies tho so there's that....
