Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Martha went broody on me yesterday. I had to break her, I am not ready for her to set. She did a good job last year, waited THREE days for the last two eggs to hatch. One of the staggered eggs is Zacchaeus, my current head roo.

Patience, Martha. Soon.

I keep waiting for Widget, my "serial broody" to start making her broody noise: bup-bup-bup-bup-bup as she walks around. That's my warning. The next day, she might be sitting in the nest.

Right now, she still isn't back in lay. She's the last one, everyone else is either laying or did for awhile (I'm looking at you, Little!).

Yesterday, I found my beautiful Sunny dead under the roost when I opened up the coop. I bawled like a baby. I don't know what happened. I couldn't bring myself to do a necropsy. She's bagged up in the freezer, and I'll bury her in the garden when the ground thaws.

She seemed fine the day before when I visited them in the afternoon and took them chickie snack.

Fly high and free, my lovely Sunny Bird!

The ground in the sandy soil garden is well thawed, so I buried Sunny between the New England Asters and the sage plant.

I have the east side of the garden for plants for the honey bees. I'll find another bee-friendly plant to put over Sunny.
Big hugs to you. I know how much that hurts. 🫂
