Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Congrats. All babies are adorable and hard to resist, but there is something about those little chipmunk stripes :love

Anyone had a 15 month old go broody to never lay again? My RIR (now 2 years old) who was broody last July hasn't laid since. It took over a week to break her broodiness, then she molted in August. I figured early-ish molt, and dropping daylight hours, fine no eggs. But it is now nearly April, everyone else has resumed egg laying, even my hen who molted through January, into February. I'm still hoping that given time she will, but her comb is very pale still.
that's very odd...My three hens who went broody always resumed laying, with the exception of my older girl Phyllis.

Friends, there is a lady in Cedarville (in the UP) that needs some help. A friend of hers passed about a year ago and her friend's son was kind of caring for her chickens. The son has to leave for work for the summer and they are in the process of rehoming the birds. There are about 12 roosters that need homes. They range from 2-3 years old, but have not been cared for as they should have been. There may be scaley leg mites on many of them, she isn't positive.

The roosters are all Ayam Cemani mixes. None are human-aggressive from what she can tell. Let me know of anyone who has a bachelor pad, sanctuary, or if you know of anyone who will help!

My goal is to own a chicken rescue and sanctuary some day, but unfortunately we don't have room for more roosters currently:( Stunning boys, though!
Definitely a needed service. There is a woman locally who owns one and she's at full capacity (100+) of roosters. She has a slot open for my guy. He's adorable and a wonderful rooster to the hens - doesn't overmate them, finds them treats, encourages them to lay in the proper nesting boxes, breaks up fights and squabbles in the pecking order, and is always on the watch for hawks and predators - but isn't human-friendly no matter how much I've tried to work with him. He is a risk that I'm willing to take for right now, but I will need to send him off to her this year.

I was asking my hubby how many chickens he was wanting to get, I was thinking 10 sounded like a good amount. He said 20!!!! :thWell, if he's going to help take care of them I guess we can compromise and maybe have 15 lol
I picked up 3 little barred rocks yesterday so now I have 7. I can't not have barred rocks. ❤️

I wish I could. That's a stunning breed.

I hear the weather down state has been nice. We unfortunately are in the middle of a severe winter storm. As of yesterday morning there was an inch of frozen sleet and rain. We have probably another half an inch since, and it is treacherous to even walk to the car. Supposed to keep going into the night tonight. Power was off at 2:00 a.m., briefly on at 4:30, and off again since and the temperature is holding steady at a couple of degrees below freezing. Yuck.
That noise you hear in the background is the frozen branches of the trees rubbing against each other in the wind. They sound like chimes.
