Good Morning!

I am trying to talk my SO into getting me some sort of saw for my birthday (next Sunday) to make building coops easier. I already have a drill. I wish it would stop snowing. I am so excited to be getting things going soon. I am trying to make a list of the other things I need for the quail/chickens and then pick them up when I go to the Farm supply store.

circular saw and nail gun really come in handy when building anything.. good luck

gladahmae i am about 3 hrs from you.. thank you for the offer.. i guess if i ever am coming over that way.. i will have to post. then maybe be able to help you out.

Looking out the window it looks like it might be another day best spent drinking coffee and reading. A quick glance at the Weather Channel icon reading 2 degrees confirms that. Winter should be over in a mere 8 weeks or 56 more days of frozen waterers. Downhill run, right?
THAT WILL BE NICE!!...even the cookie tin and electric water's have frozen up this year.

I ended up buying the $30 metal water trough de-icer from tractor supply, the cast iron loop that you drop into the water. 250 watts only kicks on when needed then shuts off. Not supposed to use it with an extension cord, but it has done well and i haven't had any issues; i ended up still using my big rubber bowl (holds 3 gallons i think) because i thought it would resist the cold better. I haven't had any freezing even when it was below zero! My water is inside the camper coop, which may make a difference too.

Is anyone interested in some free isa browns 60 free, 8months old.. heavy laying right now..
i called this ad on craigslist.. and lady really needs to decrease her flock only she is west of traverse city which is 3 hrs from me one way to far.. and this is the email she sent me today.. if anyone is interested and can help her out.. i can pass on her phone number to you.

Hi, I talked to you the other day about the chickens and you said you would talk to your friend, well i decided that I would go ahead and offer you around 60 birds free if you were still interested. We are getting way more eggs than we can sell. These birds are debeaked and vaccinated, at the peak of production. My only request is that you take the older hens too.
she said she had maybe 10 or so older birds.
just thought i would put this out there and see if anyone can help her out.. i am looking for maybe 10 more birds but 60 is just to many for me but for someone with a egg business might be the right owner for these girls..and great opportunity to renew your egg laying flock with young ones.

kinda floors me to see this email.. great offer for the right person

hoping someone can help her out

I haven't been here in quite a while. I like this new format. It works much better on my mobile. I shall have to drop in more and see what is going on!

I'm trying to decide what I would like for spring additions to my flock. I would like more variety. Mostly I have barred rocks that I got from TSC last year, but I don't feel they best represent the breed. I think I would like a few that lay more than mine do and also a couple that are willing to sit on some eggs.

Hi, Amie!

Hi amie, what are your barred rocks like, laying habits, eat alot.. size of eggs,etc.. i was thinking of getting some chicks this spring, i read they are suppose to be hardy layers and even in winter without light.. is that true..the more i am on here is making me want more different variety of chickens, i also want to get a hen that goes broody.. thinking orphington or silkie. or both..

So two of my ladies have been inside getting treated with Tylan. They're doing much better but now my big girl is molting. *sigh* I think she's doing it on purpose so she can stay indoors and get all the extra treats they get. Do chickens conspire?
