Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Yeah nice site, wish I could do that. Have you put up any pics yet of the Dominiques you got from me?? Can't wait till you are getting your peewee's, they are so fun.

ChicwannaB,

The picture of the Dominique Hen at the top of the page is the less mature one you gave me.

The rest of the pictures are of others.

TdHenson, I liked the website, too. In the spring, we'll be looking for a silkie and cochin to replace our buff orpington who was a rooster. I'll have to bookmark your site for early spring.

Right now, I should be doing paperwork for school. Instead I'm cleaning and playing on the chicken board.

Amy PT,

Ha ha ha! You sound like me! I'm almost always surfing BYC or other websites when I should be studying... Just 2 more semesters and I'll be done with grad school!

I'd love to offer you some Silkies and Cochins in the spring. Hope to have a new incubator by then. Right now, we usually use our non-SQ Silkie hens and one incubator, but it's getting to the point that we need an upgrade. Supposed to be picking a cabinet incubator and separate cabinet hatcher up tomorrow. Hope it goes well!

It sounds like everyone had a poor garden this year. Mine grew a lot of green (mostly because it was right next to the garden hose), but we didn't get much vegetables off of our plants. In fact, our tomatoes have had green ones on them for what seems like ages, but none are ripening. Strange!

I was also talking with another Michigan farmer in our area this morning and she said her hatches this year were poor. I've noticed the same thing. My hatch rates were only about 75% of what they usually are. Has anyone else noticed this?

Raz, that little skunk is Soo cute. Yes , I know who the owners are.and this is not the first time the dogs have been on our property. They are here at.least once every couple of weeks. Last weekend we saw.the dogs go after.a guy riding his bike down the road. I don't know if.small claims court will do any good. They said they don't even have enough money to feed the dumb dogs. I hate to be a whiney neighbour who calls the cops on these people all the time, but its just ridiculous that I can't go out in my own yard without packing heat for fear.of what these dogs may do, not to mention that I have small children( who are never left unattended) but u get my point
I'm not advocating legal action if there is any chance that another solution is possible.
If you are afraid to go out for fear of attack then I see very few options. If those dogs are hungry (starving) to the point that they are attacking or feeding on your birds or threatening your kids, then you should call for the welfare of those dogs. Maybe they can get into a good home with caring owners who can provide for them.

Hey! Me too! That is, if I can get all of my practicum and internship hours lined up properly. Good luck to you in finishing your program.

I'll look your website up again in the spring. If I keep looking now, we'll be driving down to Paw Paw (er... do you take "walk ins"?) for some chicks next week. Must wait, must wait... ;)

Ellie, maybe you could use the opportunity of possible legal action to get them to surrender the dogs? It's unfortunate that you fear your safety, and clearly the dogs aren't being nurtured.

I'd like to believe what the neighbour says, I really would. But I saw these dogs up close from our deck, and it was obvious they hadn't missed many meals. They were killing for the sport of it. I hope they do surrender the dogs and are placed with responsible owners
