Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Are you doing a presentation Raz? Hmmm day before chicken stock! Think they'd come out?
Yes. Wingless and I are presenting at the conference. Two perspectives of (sub)urban chicken keeping, she is legal and I am not. But we need to work out the presentation.

Timing for me is getting crazy. This presentation just before Chickenstock. And addressing the GAAMPs committee the day before my trial starts. One right before the other. I could be in jail by then.

I find it rather disconcerting that we send our people half-way around the world to protect freedom while our freedom is constantly challenged at the local level.

Good luck and godspeed Josh.

X2!

Where has Chicken Grandma gone off to?

I was just wondering about her today...

Lady- That is a funny picture!

Roads are really bad here, and drifts are getting deep.

I cleaned out the old 8x10 turkey coop today, it was cold out, but I was overheating, and had to take my coat off. The turkey coop will be for my goat. Its on the neighbor's land that got sold. I am planning to move it to the cow pen next to the cow shed. Have to wait until the snow melts so I can move it, and pull out over 100 T-post steel stakes, but can't do all of that until the ground thaws. And hope that will happen before March 14th, the deadline. Which is appoching very quickly. :th I have disconnected that pasture fence from our main pasture fence, so I can start winding the wires up without getting zapped again. lol

Good morning BYC & hello coffee. Well, I'll be picking our daughter up from school today & then going to get some chicks. We have decided on only 4 new chicks this year to replace 4 older hens that we'll be retiring this fall. In addition to that we will be hatching out just a couple of barnyard mix chicks next month (probably 4 EE/Brahma cross, and 2 BR/Brahma cross) to see what we get. DH loves his BR hen! Why he favors that 1 chicken I have no idea. LOL). I also have some silkie chicks due to hatch on Saturday.

We are also looking for 1 or 2 duck hatching eggs to try. We haven't decided what breed we would like yet though. Any suggestions on a good backyard duck breed?

Josh, good luck over there, take care & come back safe!

Plugged in my new bator a few days ago to see what kinds of temps and humidity I have. Temperature looks good, but wondering if 15% is too low?? Any water I add makes the humidity level jump to 55.

Been saving some of my Araucana, EE and silkie eggs just to try it out maybe if all looks good. DH and DS are really pushing me to put eggs in and see what happens.

The only real thing holding me back is having chicks with really cold weather still. I have honestly had enough of negative and single digit temperatures.

Come on spring. Turn the corner and come this way!

Ohh! And a new layer yesterday! My Light Susex, Shirley - it had to be her, the others in the pen are all Araucanas. How long should she be laying before I try hatching any of her eggs?

So, as you all have heard I made it back from Josh's last night. Got the brooder set up- HOLY COW- its huge! LOL, DW is not happy with me... I have had to move her dining room table to the kitchen... might even end up in the garage LOL I forgot how noisy this many birds can be haha. Today I will be sorting and counting...then will be in touch with the ones that I have made arrangements with. Thanks!

Will keep you in my prayers, Josh. Good Luck and come home safe.

Where is this wind coming from!!!
