Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Last time I was in TSC there was a pet adoption day - they had several cages of paralized in fear cats right next to the madly barking dog in a pen. Hope they plan better at yours.
yeah. it's a dog-only rescue, and they seem to have things together. hopefully crates/cages are out of sight of the chicks though.....

I saw my first wild ducks yesterday at Matthaei Botancial Gardens

There were 2 pair at opposite ends of the pond. Further up the road, there were dozens of ducks in a pond at US23 and M14 junction.

I take it as a sign of spring.
I am going out today, put the boat in the water and roto-till the garden.

Today is our 16 year anniversary. ...and we're both sick! LOL. It was kind of a wake up, give a kiss, say love you & happy anniversary, followed by a list of all our ailments and a "lets go get some cold meds, pain meds, kleenex, and some coffee" kind of morning. We both feel like crap, but it's still going to be a great day.

Happy Anniversary Maah. Hope you are feeling better soon.

I used a 100 watt bulb in a brooder lamp (it says it can use up to 300 watts). I put a thermometer on the brooder floor and lowered the light until it read 90° right under the light. I think it was about 18" off the floor to start and raised it a little every few days and slowly reduced the wattage. Make sure to double secure it like mentioned earlier in the thread.
I'll try the 100 watt. 75 watts definately was not cutting it. It wouldn't get the rubbermaid tub above 68 in my living room. If I can't get it warm enough, I am gonna jsut suck it up and go with the 250. I thought about using the heating pad method but my girlfriend recently had a pad malfunction and burn through the kiddie pool, hurting one of her pups. Too scary for words.

Just popping in to drop off a video I shot of my candling on day 7. Bear with me, it's my first time... I'm excited. Anyway, it's short, no sound but shows the movement. Buff Brahma egg.

Make sure that the bulbs you use are not Teflon coated. The fumes can be fatal to birds.
Heating pads often have a pre-set length of time that they are on. The newer ones at least. The one I bought last spring shuts off in 2 hours.

That is cool Lady. I always love seeing chicks dancing in the eggs when I candle.

Congrats Maah, sorry that you are sick. Hope that you get better soon and your DH too.

Buff Orpington egg for size comparison.
