My TSC chicks were robust and healthy as well??? I think home-hatched have better developed immune systems, but the other ones catch up .

I finally went and picked up my kid this morning.
I had put down a deposit for him a few weeks ago. Ihim!!! He is 6 weeks old, and still on bottle. I named him Laubach. He is 1/8 Nubian, and 7/8 Boer. He will be my breeding buck for my doe, and my neighbor want to use him for her does too, so win-win for us!![]()
Quote: Darron; that is one gorgeous little buckling. My does haven't kidded yet but I sure hope they are as cute as yours when they do. (I have one Nubian/Boer and one Pure Boer). We just had a roast goat leg last week (from last year's buckling) and he was incredible delicious.
cuppycake: since you are getting an Alpine, I gather you aren't going to be eating her! We had a little alpine, she's at my sister's now (we raise meat goats).

OOh! I'll have to check that out! Imlay City is in my neck of the woods! I love my Cayuga....she's loud, and she has a white patch on her head (I didn't buy her as a duckling) but she is very pretty and rather sweet considering how skittish she was when I got her...she get's along with my Rouen female and Darkwing great. All of my flock except for 3 have come from TSC and they are fantastic. Eggs every day, very healthy, friendly (well not so much the ISAs) and I would recommend buying from them. In fact, I think I might stop at the Whitmore Lake store tomorrow. Those BOs were calling to me even though I'm waiting to get some salmon faverolles.
Is that the correct spelling? Is there an "s" at the end like Marans?
BTW, I got a flyer for a bird and game show in April. www.MBGBA.com is hosting several through out the year. I don't know anything about them but a trip to Imlay City has been penciled on my calendar.
Maybe I can find a few Cayuga ducks...
Part of me would love to get rid of our chickens too (even though I love my EE and banty cochin) but we want to have chickens for meat eventually and they lay more often then our ducks, and 6 people can really put away some eggs! lol! I LOVE my ducks though so I would still be a rather happy camper if we just had large flock of ducks.Right. I keep a running log of when and where chicks/ducklings are purchased along with their other things including their death. I've been keeping the log for 3 years and only a handful made it to adulthood. Can't say why or even speculate. I only bought 3 there last year when they were 50% off at the end of season and one didn't last a day and the other two died early as well.
This year I'm only buying a handful at FFH. We're giving away a bunch of older birds that only lay occasionally and going from there. This time next year we will have a whole new set up and maybe not even chickens anymore, not sure yet. I'd LOVE to get rid of the chickens but the BF is a big fan.
As far as size of the duck eggs how many would you use and what makes them better for baking?Kimmie, the TSC I go to in Coopersville has the ones I picked up, plus assorted banties, isa browns, black sex links and a couple breeds of ducks. Man, I am tempted to get some ducks. I like their eggs in baking!
Opa you are so sweet taking care of Granny so well, many husbands would not be so kindSlept in til 6am this morning. First pot of coffee is almost gone, the crossword is worked, and yes it is a good morning. Any morning you have a pulse is a good day and today is now exception. Without checking the thermometer I can tell that it is quite cold since the wild turkeys haven't flow down yet. I've noticed that on bitter cold mornings they stay on their roost longer. I can't say I really blame them.
I'm going to put on another pot of coffee, wake Granny to give her her morning meds and then kick back and relax till it's time to fix her breakfast.
Is that a new breed of wrinkle-skinned chicken?![]()
There's always room for one moreYeah, it's true. First it was chickens ("fence testers" he called them) then it was rabbits, then guinneas, then ducks, and now goats. Will it ever end? Actually, it must, no more room!![]()
Makes me want to go to TSC for a good deal, but really do I need more chickensMaybe I'm not getting older, maybe I'm just turning into a raisin.
Went to Tractor Supply to pick up feed and they have their chicks marked 1/2 off. Still have lots of birds.
Just Wanna B a FarmHey everyone!!
Wow I haven't been here in ages and there are a lot of new people! HI to everyone!!
So, I need some help! We are starting to advertise our little thing going on here and we need a name for our place. Our handmade items have gotten really popular, especially the chicken coops, dog houses and picnic tables. We build a lot of other things but our chicken coops are the things we sell the most...and of course my chicks and ducklings. I'm going to start a facebook page so all of the photos, ads and questions and concerns will go there instead of fogging up my already busy personal page.
It's a very small farm with mostly chickens, ducks and turkeys with a few other things here or there.
So, any farm name suggestions?
What do you learn in class? My daughter lives in East Lansing and I have to go to a doctor on Wednesday.Love all the baby chicks and goat, soo cute,
Kimmie glad you are doing better, have known a few people that ended up in the hosp. with food poisoning, NOT FUN
