Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Opa, if you keep Braggs ACV for the birds... you've got the ingredients for a bit of relief from Arthur... A teaspoon or two mixed with some raw honey, so its not so bitter, then a cup of warm water... drink it down... Morning, noon and night.... I am going to say, that so far so good. I started using it for my knees and ankles. The pain is considerably lessened. Instead of taking 2 naproxen a day for inflamation, I am just taking regular old store bought ibuprofen 200 twice a day instead of 800 naproxen twice a day... Just a thought.
Watch the ibuprofen makes my husbands blood pressure go up

Well just got home to do the final check for the evening....outta fifteen birds of laying age, I received nine eggs tonight

One Pekin egg, two bantam eggs and six from my layers. I am gad that the girls are back to work now and that my new D'Uccles have acclimated to the mixed flock without too much pecking order disturbances. My new D'Uccles are from a fellow BYCer...thanks for the quality D'Uccles.

I have read all the posts about lights in the coop and such and wanted to add my two cents to it. I recently purchased a red light from Lowes that is one of the "energy efficient" bulbs (looks like a corkscrew shape). I have also purchased a photosensitive timer for my extension cord to the coop.....and TA-DAH!!! Low risk for fire, happy chickens, decreased risk for pecking injury (as its a red bulb) and my girls are BACK TO WORK

A Win-Win in my book.

And a fellow Deviant! Yay! I like your doggie drawings the best. But I do tend to like original work better, on principle. "Presa" is my favorite. I'll just link to my traditional art gallery. Lots of photographs littering my DA account these days on account of my artistic laziness: http://ladyrsanti.deviantart.com/gallery/9200862

Deviant in more ways than one! LOL! Beautiful work! Next time I'll sign in to deviant and add you to my favorites.

Presa was an ink drawing on some crappy paper I did at work (shhhh). I loved the reflection in his eyes. I used to do alot of dog training, and I met her owner. Those were fun days, I miss training.

I would love time to sit and do some original work, but I only have time to do other peoples pets. So, I guess I'll keep improving my technical skills if anything.

Native Beauty-

PLEASE BE SURE THAT THERE IS NO TEFLON COATING ON THAT LIGHTBULB TO MAKE IT SHATTERPROOF!!!
TEFLON COATING ONCE IT GETS HOT WILL GIVE OFF A GAS THAT MAKES YOUR BIRDS LUNGS HEMMORHAGE!

JOHN BALL ZOO in Grand Rapids put a hardware store bought light into an aviary and all the birds died because the shatterproof bulb from the hardware store gave off gas when it got hot!
It is safer to get a light at a pet store or a feed store that is approved for use with chickens/birds!

Update - Native Beauty knows all about teflon around birds! Hope this is helpful info for newcomers! Whew!

to all the new members....glad to not be the only newbie around here.

Finally found a buyer for my bachelor Muscovy drakes, all five of them....will be nice to cut out the teenaged squabbles in the coop for the winte and bring my numbers back into manageable pairs for spring. The drakes will be delivered to their new home tomorrow. I think we did pretty good with our duck sales this year, sold all of my twelve extra ducklings

.
If anyone wants to venture into raising Muscovies, give me a PM in the Spring....I have a white-headed black drake and black pied duck BQ pair and a new Blue drake with a black barred duck pair so I should have plenty of duck eggs/ducklings in the Spring. I use the ducks as yard guardians, insect control and good entertainment (though I am told they are good eating as well).
