Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

My birds don't like the snow, the cold or the wind.

I let them out today since i've kept them cooped due to the weather (camper coop, roomy and plenty of windows for light) Anywho, they were only out for maybe an hour and then they all trooped back in. I wasn't even done cleaning yet!

It was actually pretty nice here, not windy at all and semi-warm, only snow was in tiny patches where sun didn't get to. Wuss birds! So i finished cleaning the coop and did a bug treatment, they got lice from the neighbor's chicken again. :( Gonna get this nipped in the bud before winter sets in, poor itchy birds.

My fall hatchlings are still punier than i thought they would be, only time will tell if they become full sized or if they will stay tiny. I have heard that late hatchers put energy into feathers first, then growing. I have been working on getting them integrated into the flock, things are going pretty good. Cocoa's second daughter is turning out to be just as affectionate and needy as her mother was, like her sister is. :) Now i have two of them fighting over my lap! Cookie has settled down a lot since she started laying, but she still don't like sharing me with anyone.

Went to do chores tonight and we had three eggs waiting for us from the bantams that we got last night! Can't wait till tomorrow when the big birds should leave us some!

Didn't have a chance to check in yesterday but I have a couple pictures.

Yesterday was baking day. Well not baking - candy making (caramels, taffy, etc.). Anyway I messed up a batch of puff pastry dough. So I ended up adding a couple eggs and liquid and then turned it into a gnocchi type noodle that I boiled. Then I threw in a jar of tomatoes, a couple packs of frozen zucchini and corn. Then for a sauce with a bit of protein I added powdered milk. Kinda gross looking but they loved it. What was so funny to me was no one was hanging around the food dishes. They would run in grab a noodle and streek.

I shoveled and shoveled and didn't enjoy being out but the end to the day was great!

Good morning Michigan, 38 degrees here in Sunny Florida! We could see our breath inside the house. Good thing we are from Michigan - I have my shorts on

Spoke to a lady last night at the bar where my BF had a gig, she had lived in Marquette and ran the county 4-H extension there, we had a nice talk about chickens.

I remember past Egg presents teachers received, never seemed happy about them though. Hard to get off the windows, siding, and left spots on auto finishes. I never got those myself, thankfully. Apples, never eggs, in any form.

Glad... You shoud get a few propane buddies. When we first bought this house, we were only here for a week, and the LP ran out before they could get us filled. Good thing we were going with a different provider than the previous owner. Well anyway, no heat with a baby in the house... SO, we whipped out the propane buddies and wahlah! Heat. The nice thing is they are approved for indoor use. We still cracked the windows an inch. They worked better than electric heaters in the downstairs rooms. Heat rises, so we used the buddies down stairs and 2 electric heaters upstairs. Always good to have on hand along with generators. I need to learn how to hook the generator up to the well in the event that the power goes out here...

Anyway, no snow here... horrible wind took down trees, but nothing near my house or coops.
Our well is plugged in, inside the basement. when we need the generator we have to plug it into a socket that is run by the gen. Forgot to do that once. not good!
