I dont post much on the Michigan thread, so I dont know if Im doing this right,

I apologize if this ends up in the wrong place..

Over the past week, I lost my whole flock to a weasel.

I am so sick about it, more for my Polish Roo who is now alone and Im so concerned.

I wont go into it much because we did everything right , had them for 2 years with no problems.

Please, someone adopt my WCPR . Im thinking someone who has a young flock that can grow up with him. I dont know. Ive never

had this happen .

I live in Northern Michigan, Champion to be exact. Its in the Upper Peninsula not far from Marquette.

He is so sweet and so lonely, please HELP.

I am so sorry for your losses. It sucks when you take all the right precautions, but something still happens.

I really really wish I had room for your laddie, since I am close to you. If you want any girls though, to keep him company, I have some pullets that I'd be more than happy to give you, free. Especially if you don't want to get out of chickens.

Hey Everyone.  I haven't checked my backyard chickens in a couple weeks and realized I'm  332 posts behind, holy crap!  I just wanted to check in and say hi to everyone and I have a question.  Today was the third time I've went out to the coop to see an egg under the roost broken.  Would a chicken just think she had to poop and let out an egg?  I'm not understanding why this is happening.  Thoughts, suggestions, opinions?  Thanks

I have had that happen. It's because it is too dark in the morning for the hen to see how to get off the roost. I put a light on a timer and the problem was solved.

Question for ya'll who are a lot more experienced than I am.

Is it a good sign when an interviewer calls one of your references, within five minutes of the interview ending? About ten minutes after, I got a text saying that he took the call and gave a glowing report on me! I am just a little surprised to hear that it happened that quickly!

Also, I am very glad that just to pick up an application, I wore interview appropriate clothing and brought my packet of paperwork (CNA certification copy, resume, etc.). Hopefully I was able to give a good first impression!

Hi everyone, I have a question I got 4 hens in nov.. and they are suppose to be 1yr but i think i have a old hen in the bunch.. I took some pictures tonight.. she stands around most the day. she is eating and drinking.. on sunny warmer days she is more active.. I did notice the girls really pick on her. I felt her stomach and pelvic bone, which stomach is hard, and pelvic bone is like fingers width, oh and vent has yellow around it.. other then that looks good.. classic symptoms of older hen.. I almost culled her the other day. she was looking pretty weak.. we started feeding her extra protien and extra love she is looking better.. what do you all think.. her comb is pale..and some blueish in it.. so i was reading maybe some cardiac going on.. not sure in a bind.. she is under alot of stress from the other hens.. she stays in the nesting box at night.. I think i am going to have to crate the bully.. dont want to get rid of the bully because i think she is my 3rd consistant layer.. here some pictures.. my guess she is old or something is making her weak.. she is a sweetie, lets you hold her all day but i think that is because she is weak.. bottom picture is one of her siblings supposedly.. any feedback would be great..

the top picture is how she stands all day.. and since we gave her more protien seems like her feathers have filled in more and shiny and healthier.. and that little bit of pink on her comb is new.. so not sure what to think, not that experience to know.

I have a light that comes on about 5 in the morning and shuts off about 6pm

Stacykins, it sounds like you'd better plan to get that job. Congrats.

I'm planning for spring when we plan to get 3 (or so) bantams. I was thinking 2 cochins and a silkie, but then I saw bantam orpingtons. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a breeder of bantam orpingtons in W. MI? I might end up going cochin, silkie, b.o, if I can find all 3.
