Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

News of 10+ inches of snow has got me daydreaming about adorable baby chicks and spring *sigh*

Same here. I was just outside and saw our tulips are starting to poke some green up through the ground. I keep reminding myself that we only have around 2 more months of this.

With all this talk of chicks, it makes me want to start hatching already. By the way, does anyone know where I can get Large Fowl (Standard) Partridge Cochins that are decent quality? I saw Partridge Orps and fell in love, but, since I obviously can't afford $1,000 a pair, I've decided Partridge Cochins are just as beautiful for a fraction of the price.

I can't believe you have tulips popping up! Silly flowers. No one told them its still January. My girls have enjoyed the warmer weather that past couple of days. They won't step outside their coop when we get that much snow. They just poke their heads out long enough to give me a dirty look and go right back in. I swear they think I put the snow there and can't believe I had the nerve to do that to them.

Thought of the day:

Anyone who makes the comments "Doing it like rabbits" or "Multiply like rabbits" have not witnessed the activities of chickens.

They're nowhere near blooming, but the little green tip of the plant is starting to come up out of the ground. A few of our daffodils are doing the same. Apparently they think this mild winter means they need to come up already.

It drives me nuts when people say "multiply like rabbits"....I've been trying since November to get my does to take and have yet to have a litter! ARGH! And we're talking 12+ does here, not just one. These last few days have been nice and warm and we've been trying to accomplish getting these girls bred...I keep threatening to eat them if they don't have babies! LOL.

If anyone near Ann Arbor wants to place a chick order, I'm driving down to Meyer Hatchery on Feb 20th to pick up my chicks (We are actually taking a family trip to Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky - I talked my husband into stopping at Meyers ob our way home, lol). I'd be happy to bring chicks back for others, so you don't have to mess with minimums and shipping fees. (Within reason - I mean, I can't fit like 200 little peppers in my car, lol)
:)

Oh... now you post this!

Already put my orders in... didn't go with other hatcheries cause of the shipping costs were more than my bird order. Not horribly fond of Ideals birds, but, they have been giving some great customer service so far this year.
