Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Our 2 hens haven't laid any eggs since late November. We didn't want to do any artificial light, and figured that was going to be a side effect of that decision.
Last week our Australorp started laying again. Now that she's more mature, her eggs are bigger. Our SLW is still regrowing feathers on her head and neck from her light molt. When that's done, we might be back to 2 eggs a day. Spring can't be too far away!

How long do you all keep your eggs on the counter before putting them in fridge? My dh thinks if they are left out over night they will magically go bad.

Mine rarely make it to the fridge. I leave them in the basket, on the table and use them from there, digging to the bottom to use the oldest eggs first. Most I don't even wash - just the ones that are visually soiled. Any eggs I intend to sell though, go straight to a carton and into the fridge in the milk house - but I'm not selling right now because A. the milk house is too cold to keep eggs in and B. I'm only getting enough eggs for my family to eat.

MaahBeaker!! Glad you joined us.

Naglady, if you need a Maran Roo, Krisrose has a beautiful roo that she would like to find a good home for. I believe she got him at Chickenstock last year. Was suppose to be a pullet.

I don't put mine in the refrigerator at all. One of my customers buy 4 weeks worth of eggs at a time and she doesn't put them in the fridge either.

My last ex-wife believed in the "magic spoilage". She would dump out an entire gallon of milk if the "sell-by" date was tomorrow because it would go bad at midnight.

Boy.....after three weeks these chicks are double their original size. They are starting to spar...which is very entertaining! They can fly up on their feeder, and I just built a small roost for them to see if their interested in it....if they are I will build one to hold them all.

They are also starting to get their combs.

Some look like little homeless birds the way their feathering out and look a little ragged...lol

At what week is the "Dinosaur" stage I keep reading about?

Here's a couple shots I took.

Eh - got completely wiped out Thursday. Hubby and I checked around the coop and with the tracks came up with a weasel. I was set and determined it was a wily, ninja raccoon but it's proof positive now. Have you seen the picture of these cute buggers?? You would never suspect they're serial killers. So my 5 silly silkies, easter egger and Light Brahma are gone. Well, at least I can begin again, alittle smarter about birds. Less silkies (though I ADORE them) and some "real" chickens as my hubby would call them. I imagine by February all the wildlife is good and hungry.
Zen I am so sorry you lost your flock! I hate the wildlife when it gets to our birds. My dog is gone now so I don't know if I will start having problems, hope not. My sons little min pin won't do much for protection. I have two coops that are not as protected the Jersey Giant coop and a mixed coop with a blue Orpington roo that is big.
