Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Josh,

Thanks for your service. Return safely.
x2...and I am so glad you found homes for your chicks....that was a lot to re-home in less then a week

It appears, according to the weather forecast, that today is going to be a day
that stampede strings will be sorely tested. Rain, snow, high winds; all weather elements that I could do without. I'd like to just sit in the house, drink coffee, occasionally look outside, and then give thanks for having a warm house. Unfortunately, the chickens would be quite uphappy with me if I don't go pick up some feed.

I am glad that Josh was able to find homes for all of his birds. I know that all of us appreciate his service to our country and will be keeping him in our thoughts and prayers during his latest deployment. Perhaps when he returns we can help him re-establish his flock.

X2 on all you said! Josh- I would be happy to hatch you a few chicks when you get back.

Quick question for everyone with open-roofed pens: Today I noticed that the same sparrow that I saw yesterday i
has most definitely tried to move into my duck pen. What are all of you all doing for sparrow control and is this a serious bio security threat to my ducks? Thanks, Holly
Only one sparrow? I have flocks of them every day of the year. The hens don't seem to mind.
I can't say for certain but I think they help as an early warning for the hawk.

Mi - thank you for your service. Hopefully you can come back home soon!

Holly, there is no way to keep out wild birds unless your seal your coop/run off from the outside........ and that's probably not going to be healthy for your birds either.

Frozen rain mix.......

Hi everyone was out of town friday thru sunday.. and just getting caught up.

Josh, I know how much you were looking foreward to having chickens, and am sorry it has not worked out for you at this time. People often don't realize how much military service can disrupt people's lives. I think we all appreciate what you are doing, and I would be happy to help you out reestablishing your flock when your life settles down again. There are always more chickens here than I really know what to do with anyway! Good luck on your deployment, and thank you - Mary

Just in case anyone was interested...here's a picture of the heated water base I made. :) I use them in all my coops and unless it gets below zero I don't have frozen water. It's fantastic and cheap. This is the base without the lid on it.
