Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hey all - just saw this ad on Craigslist - http://flint.craigslist.org/grd/3631613819.html . Sounds like a fellow Michigander has a serious problem with egg-eaters!

Anyone have any experience with this problem and want to contact them with suggestions?

Just found the Michigan thread. yay.

Haha, Herducks, I fell to adorable chicks at family farm and home today too! Brought home 2 easter eggers and an adorable light brahma. It was just my luck that our store was all sold out of the goat feed I prefer, so I'll have to go back next week and fight the urge to get even more chicks. I have resolved to go in there, load up my feed, and make a wide arc around the store so I don't even get near the chicks. LOL

I wanted a light brahma, but mine does not have them!

:welcome I am ready for warm weather too, but am dreading the mud though. My cows and hogs will be a mess. I looked up online for TSC, and they are $60.00 each. I am trying to save as much money as possible, but may have to get one, when I am running out of time.
I love the warmer weather but, I hate the mud. I don't know if you have a local mill that also sells fence stuff? If so, you might ask - could maybe borrow one for a day or two?
I can try that. I will see if the local feed mill have one that I can borrow.

Harbor Freight has them for $30.
Mm, Will check that out. Thanks. Wow! So many new faces today! Must be the weather! lol Welcome everyone!

Hi
Add me to the newbie list! I am completely new, no chicks, no coop, no brooder! I have been looking and reading like crazy. Right now I am designing and gathering pallets for my coop. I really don't want chicks in my house due to allergies, so I am trying to wait until the end of April so I can keep them in the garage.

We moved onto our 5 acres from the city last August. When I told my DH I wanted chicks, he rolled his eyes. The coop has to look nice and be up high enough that he won't have to bend down to clean or get eggs. I'll post some pics when as I get rolling on it!

Same here! I went to get my chicks at FF&H yesterday and they didn't have the light brahma or the amber link that I wanted. We are only getting 4 new chicks from the feed store this year. We'll be retiring 4 older girls this fall and don't want to have to expand our coop or run again. Plus we have plans to incubate a couple select mixes... so better not buy more than we need, even if they are stinking cute.

I did however get my isa brown and leghorn babies. I'll keep popping back in there for my other chicks. The light brahma was at the top of my list.

Here are the first 2 cuties...

Herducks - oh no!!! I had no idea our FF&H had chicks...I'm was better off not knowing, lol. AND I do need a bag of feed...
I am setting eggs on March 17th that I'm getting from Cedar Creek plus a few from my own flock so I should really wait to see what hatches and maybe add chicks then. I'm setting 25 eggs...so potentially I could have plenty of chicks since they'll be local unshipped eggs. My last hatch was terrible - 1 hatched, my salmon faverolles, but it was long distance shipped eggs and my first attempt building an incubator. I learned a lot and have rebuilt - it runs so steady now. Can't hardly wait :)

Hey everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself to my fellow Michiganders! I'm in the process of getting some chickens for the first time. I want to have fresh eggs, love animals as do my kids and it will be a fun experience!
I live on Bois Blanc Island, which is the large island to the SE of Mackinaw Island.
