Girls are the same all over, aren't they, Opa?

Love this post Opa. But my problem is that pot the photo shows would be WAY too small to keep mine filled! I love to fish but can't physically handle reeling in a good fish anymore. Sometimes the coffee pot itself is too heavy! Hate those flare up days. But the thought of being out on the water brought back great memories. Thanks for them.

As far as size of the duck eggs how many would you use and what makes them better for baking?
Opa you are so sweet taking care of Granny so well, many husbands would not be so kind

What do you learn in class? My daughter lives in East Lansing and I have to go to a doctor on Wednesday.

Earlier I asked if I can add chicks to my brooding hen once she hatches her eggs? And she ate one of them one that had a dimple/crack, why would she do that? Should be hatching any day
first the class teaches how to test for pullorum and what it is. you can become certified for $20 but can take the class for free,,I think there may be a chicken health class in the afternoon, also free,,,

next yes you can put chicks under a broody even if she doesn't hatch any of her own, I would do it at night and as soon as the others have hatched as she will be more likely to accept them. Do watch for awhile to make sure she accepts them.

if the egg was dimpled it most likely would not hatch and she could have tossed it out of the nest and an other hen ate it. have not had a hen eat an egg while she was broody but they are self preservationist and will work towards the good of the flock. wich is why they will kill a sick or injured bird

Opa- I'm glad you are seeing Turkeys. Ours have not strut through the yard in a couple of weeks. We did see a Yote run through on Saturday, but we couldn't get a shot off quick enough.

Where are you fishing? We like Chemung for Pike. I sure would like to hit the river this spring!

Nice to see you quit lurking, Keyt. Good Luck on your venture!

The sun looks so pretty, but it's still cold out. Still, thankful for the sunshine!

I was going to go to the pollorum class but I have yet another court date that same day. I was there last week and have to go back again this week. Even though the trial isn't until April. This is all nonsense. Or a very odd coincidence.

So are Cayugas really loud? I had one person tell me that they are perfect backyard ducks. Tame and friendly. My lone banty hen is missing her mallard ducks and I thought she could use a friend or 2.
I think there is a small chance mine is part pekin (because of the white spot on her head...I bought her as a companion for my drake, and the ad said Cayuga, but when we got there a young boy was selling them, said he had got them in the spring for 4H and now they were selling off the extra's...didn't know much more about them, and said they weren't friendly...they were kept in a giant coop but not really socialized at all.) My girl is pretty loud...but not as loud as the pekin next door...WAY louder than my rouen's though...I honestly think they are the perfect backyard duck. Both my rouens are quiet, sweet, friendly, and fun to watch...the cayuga is nice too, just a lot louder. Obviously the drake isn't very loud but the Rouen isn't mouthy like the Cayuga is...she's my guard duck. lol.

If you were closer I'd give you some! Both my girls have started laying again! (Only my cayuga was laying in the fall.)
