Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Hello my friend...don't spend much time on the site these days....lunch any ole time....do you head this way to take care of grandkids still? I'm looking for a Buff Brahama and SF hens...know of anyone? xo MISS YOU and Krista!

minnifarm, my millie pullets were hatched last spring, so they are about 10 months old. Thier tails are slightly off center when viewed from the top, a slight deviation from the normal straight line from front to rear. This shouldn't be a problem for them at all, and it's hardly noticable. I drive to Novi for work; that might be a shorter trip for you, although I'm just south of US69 also. PM me or call 517-625-4978 if you are interested. They are really cute! Mary

Now that I'm here...does anyone have experience w/hen and toe "issues"? we have one who was limping...looked at her toes, worked on them and one ended up falling off....she's broken her middle toe and we have her isolated....nursing her...thougthts? suggestions??

Thanks for the input guys, will definitely have to look and ask around then.

I just realized that a bunch of people don't know that i have health info in the link "fuzzie's notes" in my signature; should have named it better i suppose! Anywho, there's links to all sorts of diagnostic pages/ sites/ whatnot, feel free to browse!

For the foot question, try here and see if there's something that could help you, this gal is from BYC too and she has an extensive foot section on her notes, hopefully that can help you. I've never had a broken toe on mine, so can't speak from personal experience.

I just had that last night with my Beulah! Just fell off! Didn't bleed, didn't look dead nothing. I was looking at her feet, keeping an eye for bumble foot cuz she keeps high stepping, and I haven't figured that out yet, but... I thought I was going to crap my pant when it fell off. Shocked me it did...

It wasn't very warm today but the sun makes a big difference. On the south side of our house we have a walk out basement and retaining walls. The septic is also in the same area so there is a bare spot along the house and above the septic. Everything else is still snow covered. Today I made a sawdust path from the front of the house where the chickens will walk through the snow, down to the back. Then I had to escort the first few chickens and show them the way. About a third of the chickens ventured out. They loved the dirt. I have a great picture of a chicken dust bath pile up. I think there are 17 chickens in the picture.

I sat and enjoyed the sun and the chickens company.
LOL, your roos look like they could care a less that there are other roos so close!

Fritz the Jerk doesn't mess with my faverolles boy anymore. Florus finally got his big boy pants on and doesn't get beat up by a tiny serema anymore. LOL HE RUNS now. LOL. That's how mine were too until I gave away a few boys last week. They'd all pile up together in the front of the house... I wonder if my hosta's are going to grow in this year...

Saw these boys on CL

I have a crazy week coming up. I'll try to call you on Wednesday. Thanks!

Nancy (and Nova), they must have had an injury or possibly frostbite that interfered with the blood supply to the toe. Fortunately instead of getting infected it just dried up and fell off - probably because toes have very little soft tissue to get infected, and the cold temps probably helped as well. She will likely get along better now that the dead part has fallen off, but check the edges carefully where the toe came from for swelling or infection.
