Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I posted this in the emergencies section and haven't seen hide nor hair of a response yet. Not that it's any sort of an emergency, I'm just impatient with little else to do but sulk in my bad case of cabin fever. Just wondering if anyone has seen these maladies in a chick before and if they pan out to be debilitating or deadly.

The little guy (or gal) has a hole in the top of its beak (ignore the blood, another chick started pecking at it). It's hard to see in the photo. The chick seems to have some labored breathing, not panting, beak closed. I'm not sure if it's related to the hole or some underlying defect as a result or a disease even. A little lethargic but only insomuch as the others will move and leave it sleeping alone until it wakes and rejoins them. A little slow on the uptake. Eats, drinks, poos fine. Bright-eyed. In addition to this, it has its wings on backwards (or that's what it looks like at least). I read about angel wing in waterfowl but obviously this is a chicken and it was born with it. When it hatched, the wings looked twisted, I noticed. And now that it has feathered, it's even more pronounced.

Anybody seen or heard of anything like this and what the prognosis might be if left untreated or otherwise "dealt with"?

I am sorry but I have no idea what any of those things are or why it happened. I wish I was some kind of help though. I would doubt it will live long in a flock you know how chickens are anything different it will get picked on.

I need a shock collar or something when I go into tsc. They had 1 silkie chick so I gobbled her up and got another feathered legged lil cutie so she had company. Aquaintences with a guy that works there so I didn't have to make minimum. He told me what the other little one was, but honestly I wasn't paying attention (I was holding baby silkie!) so anyone know what this little guy/gal might be?

Hello everybody, been a while since I visited. Hope everyone made it through our seemingly endless winter this year.

Anybody else raise turkeys? My Naragansett hen went broody....I lost my tom last fall to a predator, so her eggs aren't fertile. Now she has decided to set. I feel bad for her.....she's trying to hatch dummy eggs in the nest. I bought 2 bbb poults and stuffed them under her Fanny and pulled the fake eggs out. She's keeping the babies warm, but now what do I do.....is she smart enough to show the babies the food and water that is in the coop?

I am certainly looking forward to warmer weather but I don’t want a repeat of last year. What was it in the 80s this time last year followed by a late frost? In my area the local apple/peach orchard lost their entire crop. I hope they have a great year this year to make up for it.

I would like to say thanks to those who welcomed me back. That was nice. Well back to work for me, have a great day.
Yes it did completely wipe out my apple trees. I plan on making my own ACV this year so I hope the crop is better. Slow steady warm up is better for them. The maple sap is flowing good this year so hopefully that is a good sign.

I will be first timing the chicken thing this year. Was going to prepare this year and get them by next spring.... but a friend with 3 RIR 3 year olds is moving really soon. So had to order my first coop/pen. Will expand on that later if all goes well. Build myself one I like with lots of room for them.

And welcome back. Though I wasn't here before.

Ugh...snowing again, I could just curl up and cry. I guess this will make the warm weather that much better (when it finally gets here!).

I finally found my old user name (Sweechee) when I looked through all the BYC coops and found mine posted. I still don't know my password and I had a different email then, so I guess I'll be "going country" from now on.

We're thinking of getting a couple of Nigerian Dwarf goats this summer. Any recommendations on whether to get goats already in milk or doelings? Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Have a blessed day everyone, and try to stay warm!
Let me know when your ready I have friends in Lakeville with goats for sale, they are kids in my 4H club :)
