Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I just put the eggs in lockdown.. wish me luck.. I sure hope they hatch.. first time pretty scary.
They can't put anything on the internet that isn't true...
that is so true.. lol
my secret weapon of choice to tame my chickens are banannas They don't start out that excited over them, but after a few times it's chicken candy! They will eat so fast you have to watch your fingers and they will leap quite tall to snatch them out of your hands!!! Crazy how they turn from cute cuddly little things into viscious little beasts when goodies are involved...... :D

Ya, hand height might be at play. I have gotten really good at interpreting their body language, too. Most calm down and like the attention; with the exception of that one buff orpington i had. She started out sweet, then got mean towards me (when she started laying and i started collecting eggs, LOL) Never grew out of the anger, had to send her out and boy did she give me the stink eye if i tried to hide them in my hand as i passed by! She KNEW. Would bite my legs! So i rehomed that one, but the others did all calm down. Even the shy bullied one that i brought home from the auction last summer, and fixed up. Now she seems to not only accept pettings, i catch longing glances when i pet the other hens on the roost and pass her by. But still won't seek me out. I have noticed that when hens are bullied or at the bottom of the pecking order they get nervous around me, too; she's at the top here but old habits die hard i guess.

not the best to show it, but this is one of my hens resting her face on my hand; very affectionate birds.
awe so adorable

thank you
i am kinda disappointed iput the eggs in egg crates for lockdown, did it the wrong way use lid not egg holder side, so when i went to switch them out my flash light fell and cracked a egg.. turned out the egg died awhile ago, there was a little chick formation but not alot.. makes me wonder whats in the other eggs in the incubator..

hopeing i have atleast a few hatch.. so its not all a bust.

My six baby chickens are flying fools! They are 2 weeks old and any time I go near my brooder, they start flying! They do calm down but I have to be very careful when I open the top of the pen or they try to fly out! I haven't held them in a couple days due to crazy work hours. They are getting beautiful feathers!

my first chicks ever.. having lot of fun with these little peeps.. this is when we first got them home..
Saginaw tractor supply had alot of banties for $1.

well i forgot my shock collar yesturday.. had to go down to saginaw and stopped at tsc.. came home with 3 isa, and 3 leghorn, 12 in incubator ready for lockdown today..

I do the same, its endless what you can learn on here.. who needs college when you have the internet.. lol
I was at the Saginaw TSC yesterday as well, ended up bringing home the last 5 -$1 banties. Does anyone know where they get their chicks from?

Yesterday's milestones for my one-week-old chicks was to learn dust bathing and chest bumping. So funny to watch the tiny little guys doing what the big guys do.

Good morning...

Happy Friday!!

Today is DH's birthday! He turned 38.

My daughter has confirmed strep throat. Tonsills are HUGE. They swelled up so much this time, & quickly, that it started blocking her airway. Poor girl. She's on antibiotics and pain meds now & should start feeling better within the next day or so.

My silkie hen decided to start laying eggs again yesterday! Yahoo. She must have been waiting for me to open her nest box back up. I filled it with lots of extra straw bedding this time. Once she goes broody again I'll let her hatch some chickies. :)

One week left for the eggs in the 'bator on the counter. At last check (Monday) they were all still going strong and no duds. I'll probably candle them all again tomorrow.

Nice & proud of our rooster that's in with our laying hens. Such a good boy. He's not aggressive in the least, even lets the girls eat whatever they want of what he has, and is doing his job at keeping all 11 of them nice & fertile. Because of his size though he was wreaking havoc on their back feathers, so I did get those saddles for 6 of the girls (I call them their pretty dresses. lol). I have a nice pattern now, and will probably make a few more this spring.

Hmm... Well, my shift starts now. Everybody have a great day & weekend!
I need to make some saddles I have to search for a pattern on line and get to it. I remember when I was 38 seems like forever ago. I had my tonsills out when I was 13 boy that was painful! But I have tonsillitis at least 2 times a year.

I have a really nice Blue Splash Orpington rooster, he is a nice roo. He will be a year in june. I need to get a better picture of him if my grandbaby goes to sleep. This pic was from the fall he is much bigger

This is Talyn my four month old grandbaby, this is the reason I can't get anything done. No really he is actually easy but I found out real quick I just can't run outside whenever I want to check the chickens.
This BSO is young here about 4/5 months old his color is much better now lots of blue splash, I need the room for a momma and her babies. When can I put the momma and her babies back with the others?
