My eggs are hatching! My son and I just got to watch phoenix number 2 hatch! That was cool. Wish I had it on video. Will buy batteries tomorrow! Hope we can catch another one.

Another bright and sunny day is just over the horizon and soon I will head for the job site to turn off the alarm system. Having men on a roof banging away can set off an alarm and I doubt the police would be happy investigating the installation of a new roof.

In a few more days I will candle the Welsummer eggs I have in the incubator and while I am hopeful for a good hatch, I still wonder what I will do with so many chicks if it is. A week before the Welsummers are due to hatch I will start saving Vorwerk eggs. I wouldn't mind increasing my flock of them as they are decent layers of the small eggs my sons like pickled eggs made from.

I have these Clover Wonder Clips for when I don't want to poke holes in things, they are AWESOME! http://www.amazon.com/Clover-Wonder...67810362&sr=8-1&keywords=clover+clamps+sewing Or if you need something more quickly, maybe try some wooden clothes pins? The little clips are so cool though, I use them whenever I can instead of pins now.

those are neat, wonder if you can get them at hobby lobby or a fabric store?

Any one near Belding want some Basque eggs to hatch, I don't have an incubator and non of my hens seem to be inclined to go broody no that I am ready for them to, I have my Basque rooster over 1 Basque,2 Delawares and an EE not a good choice really because you don't want white in the Basque so maybe I should put a couple Australorp

Took my boys out to the dunes on Sunday. They were awestruck. BIGGEST SANDBOX EVER! My grandparents used to take us (their grandkids) there in the summer. It was like coming home.






Congrats on all the wins at the show over the weekend. I don't see myself ever showing any of my birds but those who do have my utmost respect.

on a side note, when you build a tractor for your meat chickens that you can stand up in, cover it with 1/2in hardware cloth and then tarp it, AND have a slam latch on the door.....put an idiot string on the latch that goes inside the tractor.

Just sayin.

Good Beautiful Morning!!! Sun shining and it's beautiful out.

Busy week end. My two grand daughters were in a dance recital Sat. Both did great. Ryla, who is almost 10 has had anxiety problems all her life. For her to be on stage with a huge audience was a huge accomplishment for her. Way to go, Ryla!! She calls me the crazy chicken grand ma, but she loves my hens and loves collecting the eggs. She's a nature lover, so I love to take her camping with us. Love taking walks in the woods with her.

Yesterday my DH, SIL and I got all the ceramic tile out of my living area. It's a hughe open area, so there was a lot of tile! Lots of back breaking work. Stairs on the fireplace hearth removed. Yay! But, now we have to remove the cement board. Just the DH and I. So much dust! My poor house! I see lots of cleaning in my future.

Any goat people around - I need help

My little boer doeling. Mama was not taking such good care of her at all - wouldn't let her nurse and is now almost dried up. So, I brought her in, bought some goat replacer and am trying to get her to take a bottle. Never done it before (she's adamantly refusing right now). (doeling is now 11 days old and hardly any bigger than when born).

Hubby wants to put her back with the herd and feed her during the day. I told him I thought it would confuse her, and that she'd never accept the bottle. The problem is, we don't have anyplace to keep her except in the garage in a dog crate.

Once she has accepted the bottle for a few days, would it be safe to put her back with the flock? Would she try nursing on Mama again?


I'd appreciate any advice right now!

You can leave her with the goats as long as they're not hurting her. Feed her the bottle out there. I have added Ensure, vanilia (weight gain formula) to the milk for my goat kid to give him an extra boost, it's helped... may help your kid too

I'm relatively new to BYC. I live in SE Michigan abount 20 miles from the Ohio boarder.

I started my flock a couple years ago with just a few pullets for eggsfor my family and out of that grew a chicken obsession. I now have 3 coops with adjoining runs, my how things change.

My laying flock consists of production reds, barred rocks, easter eggers and Black copper marans, then I have my Polish coops that consist of wc black, wc blue, self blue, gold laced, silver laced and Tolbunt. My husband says I've gone Polish crazy, I can't help it I just love the breed.

Anyway, thats my little storey. I'm happy to be here, and hope to meet some other Michigan folk.

Hi there don't worry your no crazier then the rest of us. I was just going to get a few chickens for eggs and pets but now I have three coops one of which is jersey giants, one with a mix of pure bred hens and one with 7 nine week old chicks which consists of four EE's one jersey giant (blue), jersey giant comet cross roo he is so pretty because he is blue and red and a comet cross. I have around 45 eggs in the bator with 7 that are ducks, geeze who ever thought I would be that crazy chicken lady, lol.
