Awwwwwwwww what little cutie pies

This was a great weekend.... the weather was perfect and we got a lot done!

The bees came Saturday morning so we got them set in their new hive... was quite an experience standing around all those bees with no protective gear!

They seem to be doing well so far!

We got the last of the 6x6 posts and T posts in for the goat pastures. All that's left is the vertical 6x6 for the H braces, gates and fencing.. Will be great to get that project done.

We had a huge pile of scrap wood and old logs that took me all day, but I managed to get it all burned..... looks so much nicer having that gone.

Broke out the challenger for a nice ride Saturday, and the bikes are all cleaned up and ready to go as well.

Got a little too much sun, and slept really well........ had to come back to work just to rest up!

Wow! I am jealous! I'd love to have a few beehives when I get my own property! I buy local natural honey and it is so much tastier and helps my mom with her allergies too!

Great job Theron and RirJen! Your hard work paid off!

I have a moms and chicks picture for you!
Cotton sitting on Moppit sitting on 6 chicks. The two moms are still sharing in chick care with no fights. They have moved into a corner of the small coop on their own. It is not as busy of a spot as beneath the nest boxes.

Yesterday I worked on my new small coop but was interrupted by opening day for little league. It was beautiful weather. Looks like more of the same today so maybe I will get it finished.
That is sooooooo funny and sweet
Pre-wash the lining material so that it is shrunk.
I mostly use my serger when I have to use a liner. It keeps the 2 dis-similar materials secured together pretty well. I still get some wrinkling of the liner. Come to think of it, I use my serger for most of my joining as well.
Raz is there anything you don't know how to do?

Good news on the goat.

A trailer like a coop? Or a trailer like a mobile home that you live in?

Mobile home, and the chickens have the camper. So we are technically both in a trailer now LOL.

I wanted an apartment but no one lets renters have pets anymore around here. But i've been told that since a trailer is technically a "home" and I own it, the lot rent boosts credit for home buying quickly. So between that and paying on my student loan (?) , I'm hoping for a "real" house in a few years. I dream of the day when i can get a cup of coffee and walk out to watch my birds on my own front lawn. :)

I'm also wondering if these old cheap trailers might be a diamond in the rough a few years from now, like old cars are since the "cash for clunkers" drove those car prices up?????????? The new ones start at $700 for a rent to own, vs. $300- $450 monthly lot rent for one you can buy outright. Perhaps it's sale might get me a couple thousand to put on a house later on?

I'm waffling between putting the laminate down vs some decent sheet vinyl, MANY updates needed to make it worthy of a decent sale.

For now i'm just super glad i don't have to cough up my birds, was dying inside thinking about it. I hope you are able to accomplish everything in your city, no one should be denied their pets if they are clean and well kept.

These are all phoenis here
No, that chick aint purple. Just a light glare. LOL the little yellow one popping in the bottom left is a white jap bantam, The one egg up at the top that is zipped, a black one popped out of that one. THAT egg I had marked as a possible quitter on day 18, but since I was not sure, I just marked it and set it.
This one is a WC polish just popped out.
Another veiw of the jap bant popping up top and the polish on the bottom

Currently 9 out and 3 more are pipped and zipping.

Have you considered the vinyl plank? Thats what I'm saving up for. Looks like quality hardwood with the durability of vinyl. I have a 100+ year old house with uneven floors so at $2/sqft its much cheaper than my alternatives since carpet is NOT welcome in my house.

As for being a crazy chicken lady, I started a year ago with 12 barred rocks. Before winter I had processed 25 broilers 3 cockerels and was up to 22 hens. This year I've added 5 pekins, 2 cayugas, 4 bb-bronze turkeys, and 10 more chicks(they were homeless so I had to take them lol). There are still more breeds I want to get and can't wait to move somewhere that I can bred my own since I can't have roosters.

on a side note, when you build a tractor for your meat chickens that you can stand up in, cover it with 1/2in hardware cloth and then tarp it, AND have a slam latch on the door.....put an idiot string on the latch that goes inside the tractor.
wink.png
Just sayin.
Reminds me of when my husband and I were building our coop (double walls with insulation, built sturdier than our house) and the door slammed shut on us without any way to get out from the inside. Luckily we had a rake on the inside that we could stick out the chicken door and open the latch. I would have been mad if we'd had to break a window on our new coop right away. :D Lesson learned.
