A stray cat just saved my silkie from drowning

. I looked out to see if the broody duck was back in its nest. I see the stray cat running across the yard toward the duck pool. He was trying to help get the silkie out of the water ,well either that or he was trying to eat it. But if it wasnt for him I would have never noticed it until it was too late. I got the silkie out it doesnt appeared to be injured, dh took a towel & dried it off. Now its sitting under a heat lamp in the living room.. Never a dull moment around here

I can almost guarantee your dog is diabetic!!! This happened to my puggle . . . the vet wouldn't listen to me and kept telling me no, it had to be this or that. I insisted he do a blood sugar test and he finally did just to shut me up. Guess what? My dog was diabetic!!! Should have been in a coma the vet said. Unfortunately his kidneys were too damaged by this time and we did the humane thing and put him down. From the research I did, it was most likely caused by the dog food he was on (Purina Dog Chow - mostly corn, corn, more corn, and high fructose corn syrup). He did respond to the canine diabetes diet I put him on toward the end. I cooked his meals (venison/ground beef mix, chicken/venison mix, green beans, etc. - there's a whole list online of diets for diabetic dogs). My dogs now eat a much better diet - no Dog Chow! I research what they eat. Except for the chicken poop

. Since my chickens free range, I can't keep them away from it - they love it.
Anyway, have your vet do a blood test or do it yourself if you have a monitor (or have a friend that does). Dogs blood sugar runs very close to ours so you can use human levels as your guideline . . .

Of the 8 Sebrights I have left, they have divided themselves into groups. One cockerel has claimed 3 pullets.


The other 2 boys have a girl each. But at the end of the day they all roost together.,





The alert roo on the right is the dominant bird and the only one to crow, It's not much of a crow, sounds likes a rusty gate hinge. Er,er, ah? When I laugh, he does it again.

These are the last birds that I need to re-home to be compliant with the court order.
Any takers for a temporary foster home?

You're welcome... I'm getting tired of the lies and bullying from those who feel they are empowered to tell us what we need, don't need and how to live our lives. Many of my friends feel the same way. I hope a few more of them will step up and pop a few bucks for you. The friend in NY, lost their business during hurricane Sandy and have been busy rebuilding. I thanked them for you.

I agree! I am really scared that this kind of bullying will lead to further loss of rights, what will be next? I am hoping that there is a quick decision to clear of all charges. this is a case for J.F. his inlaws are from GC, MI. Although, we are really enjoying our time with Krispy and Gravy...
this is a picture of the girls helping me to prepare my garden boxes and spreading my mulch...again. They are so fun. As always they can be seen on Hunter's City Chicken on FB. The other girls are our 12 week old Buff Orpington, Houdini, our 12 week old, Red Star, Golden Eye, and our Speckled Sussex, Azalea. They are all getting along. Hope that the pics help.

They are so very sweet! I remember when Oliver was crowing at first and it was so adorable! Hope that you are doing well. I heard that you had the pleasure of meeting my Brother-in-law and my sister brought you the tadpoles. Your girls are doing great in their new flock. Krispy is the top girl, and really has a great personality. All the young girls look to her for direction. Gravy is doing well and laying an egg every day. There are lots of people here pulling for you and Hunter's School is doing a letter writing campaign about the importance of keeping chickens. We are wishing you the best.

Your sister and BIL are so nice!. I forget their names but BIL called me "young man" so I was laughing on the inside. Kids, I tell ya!

Crispy was/is my favourite hen, she was broody when you picked her up. She is a real cuddle bug. Gravy was/is my second favourite bird. That she is laying every day tells me that she is a happy hen.

I appreciate the letter writing campaign.
