Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Love the pictures Silly and Nova. I was patient enough to get one of a bluebird yesterday.

Nice! Do you have bluebird houses out for them?

I'm getting the yard and coop ready for the Monday inspection. It seems like everything I do, I find another thing that needs to be done. It's not like there is anything that is extraordinary, it is just that now I am more aware of what it is that I do every day.

Some of the newest additions to the flock. They're day olds... some less than day olds.

It is chilly here for the chicks to be outside considering they are only a day old. BUT, I heated up a corn cob heat pad, put it in the bottom of a basket, put a hand towel over it, set the chicks in, and went out the door. Did the trick to keep them warm enough between takes. LOL. I am uber dork now.
If you're an uber dork then you have company. I take more pictures of the chickens then I do anything else around here. This is wonderful!! Great shot!

No kidding! I wonder what the heck name and internet site I found a few years ago?! Thanks! Now I can stop pulling the patch that continues to come up, years later. ;)

Lady, I found a few photos that listed it as Bee Balm, too.
Too funny! I am searching high and low for bee balm for my garden and you're tearing it out. I think this year my gardens have a chance. Last year I gave up by mid July realizing it was futile to keep throwing money at them. This year both my husband and I are amazed at how green our property is. It is our 2nd summer at this place and it didnt look this green when we were showed it two years ago. Now, if we can do something about the skeeters i'll be a happy happy woman.

That is awesome!! Doing the happy dance! I'd use Ver Wrap on your injured girl too.

Thanks. The muscovy must be doing somewhat better. I just checked on her again after I finished mowing and she ended up laying an egg, too!!! I thought about vet wrap - it's somewhat stretchy but I thought it might still be too constricting to let her swallow food . . .

Ummm . . . I found a nest today with 7 eggs in it. Apparently one of my EE and one of my cuckoo marans decided they liked laying out in the field better than in the nest boxes. I know which EE it is since she's my only pink egg layer. There were 4 of hers and 3 cuckoo marans eggs. I have 3 cuckoo marans hens so I don't know if these are all from the same hen or different hens. I did a float test to see if they were still good and they seemed fine. We've had comfortable days and fairly cool nights but I'm going to hard boil them just in case though. After I collected these both hens each went and laid another egg in the nest! I'm scouring the area to see if I can find any more hidden nests. I've looked all over that area several times since egg production dropped so much but I could never find anything. It's extremely overgrown with pickers and skunk weed - and it's on the neighbors property. They gave me permission to look around a couple weeks ago and they seem okay with the chickens free ranging over onto their yard but I think I'm going to have to get their permanent run up soon

Now I have to get cleaned up and go check on the muscovy hen and (hopefully

) soon-to-hatch ducklings that I will be getting post-hatch.

Caught the baby skunk this am.. and relocated it.. hopefully i dont see anymore. i will be setting these traps for awhile to make sure i catch all the predators in the area.

Yes, several. The post that this bluebird is one has a birdhouse and he and his mate are using it. That's why I knew if I waited long enough I would be able to get a picture. I have seen this bluebird chasing a little red squirrel several times. I have never seen that before.
I also have a flycatcher nesting outside my bedroom window. And a robin above the pop door to the chicken coop.
