gaitngirl, do you get Backyard Poultry?..there was an article about impacted crop and she said something about twisting the head up if something is stuck or to large, being one of the first signs?

kingI've never ceased to be amazed by how storms travel. David lives just 6 miles north of me and quite often he will have rain and we won't or the reverse happens. I remember a hot summer day at Fort Leonard Wood when we were baking in the hot sun and on the other side of the road it was dark and raining hard enough to strangle a frog.

The rain we are getting now will sure benefit my garden. I think it is almost impossible to water as effectively as a good soaking rain. You can almost immediately see a difference in the plants. They seem much greener and to stand a little taller. With most of the competing weeds gone I expect to see a noticeable difference by the weekend. Perhaps the tomatoes will have grown enough that I can start attaching them to the ropes going to the overhead support system.

I can't remember a year when my pepper plants have faired as poorly as this year. Hopefully the current warm spell with today's rain will rejuvenate them. I can and freeze a lot of sweet bell peppers so having a poor year will have a adverse affect on our winter larder.

might be a neighbor hood child interested in chicken sitting
were abouts in Rockford are you? I have grandsons in Belmont, the 14 might be interested if he can ride his bike there

I'm just off of the White Pine Trail on House Street. I would worry a bit about having a child look in on them, especially being gone that long. Hard to know how responsible anyone is at 14. I imagine some a lot, and some not so much. ;)

Sam same here i think a couple rain drops.. cement is went but not enough.. I want a soaking.. let it rain, heading camping for 5 days starting friday..I am sure that is where we will see any rain if we are to see some.. at the campground..

It cost me almost $170, to have a neycropsy, Dr. Fulton requested 3 birds -2 were still alive when I brought them. 2 had Mareks 1 oldter vac. bird had egg parritnites
I have three copies of the book so far, I need two more so each of my kids can have one. The author sent a letter and a copy to all the grandkids (my dad) and kids. These days more and more people don't know about their families past.

Wow that cost a lot to find out about the birds. What happened to the rest of the flock?

This popped on my FB feed. Anyone interested in a photo shoot showcasing your chicken coop? I think Opa's and Scifisarah's and BYFM would be good candidates. How about other's? Silly, your goat house would be great, get it finished.

Hey Detroit! I'm a photographer shooting a book project documenting some of the coolest chicken coops around the country. I'm going to be in the Detroit area this Thursday (27th) till Tuesday (2nd.) If you have a cool coop and you'd be interested in letting me photograph it, hit me up! Some of my work: www.brandonsullivan.com. Contact: [email protected]. Hope to hear from you, thanks!

Queen of pragmatism meets fine art and fine art lost. No one would photograph my coop. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from a fine art institution with a degree in fine art and my coop looks like an outhouse. ****** FAIL.

Someday I will find myself.

Anyway, here's what I did find this morning, behind the barn. Storm brought it down last night. Only my husband (who wields the chainsaw) can truly appreciate the irony but we just finished burning the other half of the tree that fell down over the winter. Acer negundo.

lost one of my older hens last night.. she has been acting different for about a week.. she is 3 yrs or going to be close this fall.. was already slowing down laying.. was a Isa.. not really surprised.. probably another internal laying.. was kinda acting like it. so now i am down to 7 adult.. and 12 2-3 months olds..

my 3 month olds i can see their combs growing everyday.. especially the leghorns. so hopeing they lay earlier then 24 weeks. which is possible with isa and leghorns..

did i say it hot and muggy and the mosquitos want to eat me..

Cool, I sent him an email but I imagine he won't want to drive out to Rockford. I'd like to own a book of pretty chicken coops, even if he doesn't photograph mine!

Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone gets the benefits of the rain moving through....DH is sure happy not having to haul 50 gallons of water for the garden today!

We had such a good time at Chickenstock on Saturday! So many cool birds, crafts, etc.. When we got home, my kids set up the table in the front yard and finished selling their baked goods. Surprising because people fly down our road, but they set signs up at both ends of our property. They even had a lady stop and just give them $5 because she thought it was so cool that they were using initiative!

We went to the Tigers game on Sunday, DS had won the tickets from his teacher. His teacher donates (4) tickets each year and for every 20 points kids earn for Accelerated Reader, they put their name in the drawing. DS wanted the tickets so bad that he actually earned the most points for the entire school (almost 500). It was a great game, but SOOOO hot!! I ended up taking DD to the bathroom and putting her head under the faucet as she was getting way overheated. We finally moved up to stand in the shade. We were really glad we had parked in the underground lot so our car was nice and cool when we got it in.

Yesterday, I came back to work and spent the entire day in contract negotiations...exhausting.

Today is my catch-up day (on both work and rest!)

Hope everyone is having a great day. Very cool about the book of coops.

TAPROCK - my kids thought that Von was a really neat kid. They were happy to have gotten to hang with him on Saturday. I really enjoyed talking with him as well (he was so concerned that you had not gotten your name in the raffle...he is a sweety!!)

FARMERBOY - Grace is a total sweetheart!! I always enjoy talking with you and found Grace delightful as well.....and such a BEAUTIFUL smile!! Be good to her!!
