Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

Sad day, I lost my Snowball to heat stroke. She somehow got herself in the big birds run and couldn't find her way out or to the water. After we found her we gave her water and put ice packs around her but it was too late. It was not that hot today so I wasn't worried about letting her out. She sticks to her little yard and coop and rarely leaves it. She follows the rooster around most of the time.

:( so sorry for your loss! She was beautiful.

In the same vein as policing up the debris from fallen or broken trees, don't forget that may varieties of apple trees are self thinning, you should rake up the fallen apples to prevent disease.

Opa, I have already warned my boys to be on the lookout-- So far none. My apple tree is amazing this year, the last year of rest I think was good for it. I was a bit surprised to see so many, the blooms weren't really impressive this Spring at all.

The deer were out there this morning cleaning up the little apples that are falling already. In the fall they take care of the rest (the ones I don't get to save over the winter for my rabbits and goats).

First topic: As the event photag for CS13 I hope everyone got to see the photos over on Flickr. As of July 21 I will be deleting them from the portfolio to free up gigs.

2nd: I still have a gorgeous German NH hen and roo fore sale @$40 for the pair. Both a year old and ready for a new home. I got them from Laura as chicks and they a heritage breed.

Trees, I'm starting to hate them. We just identified 15 more fully mature white pines, willows, maples, poplars, and cherries I have to remove for my new barn. It's one thing when they are a few years old but old growth stuff a hundred feet up stinks.

my little Polish chick got out of the chick enclosure in the coop last night and the hens objected. right now she is in a box in the house with a torn up head and neck. she is standing now, which is better than the laying on her side she was doing when i brought her in. is there a time that BluKote is a bad option? the wound on her neck is kind of big a swollen looking.

Glad you were able to get that all worked out.

10 new chickens are home. 4 clean-faced white silkies, 2 Amber Links, 2 Buff Orpingtons, and 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes. They're going to hang out in the meat tractors for a couple of weeks and then get integrated with their appropriate counterparts.

Congrats on the new chickens!!!
