One of our silkie chicks had this on both feet. Since then the fork has fused together, making it a double wide toe with a very thick nail. It's so, so weird.

I heard really loud squawking around 4 am, but knowing we have coyotes that have passed thru our yard, I wasn't about to go investigate. Headed out now to make sure my birds are ok...

Well my first big tragedy was last night, a coon broke a window and killed all but one young pullet, I just put a hen and her four babies in there yesterday she was so happy to have so much more room then this pretty sad about it

Boy, keeping birds cool is a challenge. Left work early & glad I did. They needed to get out of coop/run & get dug into some nice cool dirt under the bushes & deck

Not to mention some more icy, cold water.

Does anyone have any ideas for automatic pop doors that could be acquired/assembled/installed in TWO DAYS??? <.< It turns out that my farm-sitter can only come by once a day in the evenings and I really don't think it's a good idea to keep the pop door open all night, every night while I'm gone and with a fox around - but equally unacceptable is leaving them all cooped up together all day. I know I should have thought of this sooner but my mind has been absolutely a jumbled mess lately. I've seen some made with a simple drapery motor and a timer... any better suggestions?

With all the increase in backyard chickens, you'd think there would be some chicken-sitting services around. We ended up recruiting my husband's stepbrother to come check on them several times the week we are gone, and top off their food and water, but we won't be able to shut the coop every night. We're going to try to have some electric fencing in by then though. How many chickens do you have?

I have nineteen in one coop and they've only been together for a couple of weeks so while the coop is plenty big for their numbers, they're still slightly at odds with each other and enjoy their space. That's really the main concern.
